Mushrooms

I am still ttc, but a friend told me that when you're pregnant you shouldn't eat mushrooms. I haven't found any such thing on the web (although I did only a quick search). Has anyone else heard this?

Well I suppose one SHOULD avoid the hallucinogenic sort...:) Never heard of needing to avoid the regular sort, though.

As long as they're the store-bought variety and you didn't gather them yourself in the forest or score them on the street, then I think you'll be ok.

You do not have to avoid eating mushrooms while pregnant. As long as you buy them in a store and wash them thoroughly you have no reason to be concerned. It is important to wash all vegetables thoroughly with soap (dish soap is fine) as the soil they grow in contains the bacteria responsible for toxoplasmosis, teta__s, listeriosis and other diseases that are especially dangerous in pregnancy. Good luck and enjoy your mushrooms!
