I am a huge fan of rare steaks... and I eat a lot of meat... obviously better quality - meaning high priced - restaurants are the ones I go to... now if eating sashimi is at high class Japanese restaurants are OK, is it the same for rare meat?

Personally I always have them cooked through when I'm pregnant - I don't like them rare but don't mind them pink...But when I'm pregnant I won't touch it like that...And I've been in a few restaurants where I don't even ask...The waiter informs ME that he'll ensure the chef knows I'm pregnant and to cook either my steak or lamb right through...I don't actually 'know' that you shouldn't but I would think there would be some bacteria in there not getting killed off...

I have heard that eating raw fish in Japan whilst pregnant is fine and in some cases I have heard that it is encouraged in fine restaurants as they believe they have some of the freshest fish in the world and it is good for the baby. I have been personally to Tokyo and have seen pregnant woman eat sashimi. I suppose it all depends where you are in the world. US is a big no no on a drop of alcohol, here in Switzerland as in most of Europe I have found it is accepted in moderation, gla__s of wine with dinner. When I was obviously big and pregnant I was always served wine in restaurants with the rest of the table, no questions asked. In Calif. I was asked if I wanted water with my dinner, so as you see, it all depends where you are. I love sushi and still eat it on occasion, I am 12 weeks with number 2. I don't worry, enjoying it is much better. I still eat my steaks medium rare. Oh and blue cheese, pregos eat it here too as well as your after meal coffee. bon appet_te!

Don't eat raw or rare meat while you are pregnant. Wait until after your have your child. It is not safe, and not worth the risk.

What is a bit overbearing is the word DON'T. Julie you could say for example, "I wouldn't....." or "I've heard that....becasue..." Saying DON'T when it is simply your personal opinion comes of sounding a bit self-righteous. Anyway, I have read enough in books, online and spoken with doctors and mothers from around the world to surmise that people are raised to do, eat and drink differently whilst pregnant and I respect that, even if I would do otherwise. I believe on the "wine" thread you said "DON'T drink, even if your doctor says it's okay". Are you really in a position to tell a woman not to trust her doctor?
