Well my OB told me to try sprite and prune juice mixed together and heat it up and drink it while it is warm. It worked for me.

I know one safe OTC med is Milk of Magnesia. It's liquid, kind of like Mylanta. I've had to use it once. I hate using stuff like that though because it gives me the runs. Just a warning.
