Back Ache And Sleeping

I am approaching my third trimester and for the past week I have been having such a hard time sleeping. My doctor suggested that I sleep with a pillow between my legs, but that hasn't helped. She's also advised me to stop sleeping on my back and only sleep on my sides (preferrebly left side for circulation purposes). Every morning this week I have woken up with an aching lower back (right side only closer to my bum). It feels as though I strained something. It's difficult to change positions from one side to the other, because when I lift my leg, my lower back starts hurting. It seems to ease up during the day, but when I sleep is when this problem arises. Does anyone have any suggestions that I could by to ease this achiness?

It sounds like the same thing I am suffering from called Sciatica. I also had it when I was preg. with my daughter... it's when the baby puts pressure on your sciatic nerve (in your lower back) and it can cause shooting pain in your back, bum and thighs. Mine is also worse when sleeping, and mostly on my right side. Sometimes it's just excruciating getting out of bed. There's not too much that can be done about it... my doc suggesting rubbing it with muscle ointment like "Rub A5-35" or "Tiger Balm" and if needed, I she suggested Tylenol. Good luck, and I hope it gets better for the both of us!!!

I've had this off and on throughout the pregnancy and when it gets real bad I've found that sleeping upright in a chair (a comfy one!) helps a bit. I usually put a pillow in the small of my back for support and try sleeping as close to upright as I can.

Hey ladies, I talked a little more to my doctor about this problem and she suggested that I get a maternity support belt (I got it at the Motherhood store). She said that the weight from the baby during the day is affecting my back at night. That thing works wonders and it was only $15!
