This has never really happened this much until I got pregnant. At night I'm waking up all the time b/c my hands are falling asleep. Also, when I lay on my left side my left arm and hand falls asleep and I wake up in horrible pain. Does this happen to anyone else? I haven't said anything to my doctor yet, b/c I wa waiting until my app. this coming Tuesday.

My arm and hand will fall asleep if I am laying on my side sometimes. When you wake up are you laying on them or have them in a position where they could fall asleep? Pregnant women can get carpal tunnel syndrome and that would make your hands go to sleep, but it wouldn't just happen at night. If it is CTS it will go away when your baby is born or it should anyway.

This happened to me often when I started sleeping on my side. I would wake up to find that the arm I was laying on had gone totally asleep and hurt. It was a really bad feeling, like the blood couldnt' get there fast enough. I fixed this by laying on my back. Well, that was earlier in pregnancy! You can't lay on your back past 14 weeks or so. Here's what has helped me. I used feather pillows to support me all around. One behind me, one between my knees, one infront of my belly, and one for my head. The one behind me acts like a wedge that I can lean back on, and the one in front keeps me off my side, so that both my arms are to my sides more than having one underneath me. When I sleep I am not lying on my back, nor on my side, but right in between. This keeps the pressure off my arm just enough to let the blood get to it. I have also been suffering with the wrist pain, but it's improved on days I get more restful sleep and drink more water. I know it sound like a lot of pillows but feather pillows really squish down and are not as bulky. They can be expensive, but the most recent pregnancy set we bought at Target for $9 each! Good luck!

I have that periodically, worse a few months ago. I am 7 months now. I place a pillow between my shoulders and neck, this allows me to still sleep on my side. I also get some mild chiro. work done, basically messages on pressure points at the shoulder and back/blade area. That helped a lot too. I had carpal tunnel too, but according to the chiro it was two different things and not related, just had both.
