Terrible Insomnia

Hello I am 7 wks pregnant tomorrow and I was wondering if any of you ladies have changed your sleeping patterns since you have found out you are pregnant? I get my rest but I feel like I have a harder time winding down to fall asleep now and when I get up in the morning I am wide awake! Not groggy like I thought I would be. I am hardly ever sleepy and that kind of worries me.

It's early on in your pregnancy...just wait :) Nothing to worry about though

I feel like the walking dead! I cannot seem to fall asleep at night to save my life and when I do, I usually sleep anywhere between 10 and 30 minutes at a time and then wake up thinking I've been asleep much longer only to look at the clock and realize I had just barely evn closed my eyes. This is extremely frustrating for me, to say the least, and I've tried everything. I can usually fall asleep while getting a back rub from hubby, but as soon as he stops, I'm wide awake. My doc offered to perscribe me Ambien, but I declined. I just don't care for sleeping pills and the way they make me feel. I would prefer to take something like Xanax that doesn't make me feel any different, but just allows me to relax, but my doc refuses Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. All I know is that if I don't get some sleep soon, I'm going to lose it!

I think it is probably all the hormones. Mine seemed to stop raging as much in my 2nd trimester, but I was like you in my 1st trimester. I had soooo much energy! I didn't require much sleep. Now here I am at 36 1/2 weeks and it is quite the opposite. I barely ever sleep, but yet I am tired quite often. Being tired definitely does not mean I will fall asleep. It is virtually impossible to find a comfy position. I;m the same as Shelby, I can sleep if my hubby is rubbing my back but that'sabout it! Goodluck!

I know how you feel. I was taking trazadone at night to sleep and can no longer take that do to pregnancy. You can however take unisom (which is also used with vitamin b-6 that helps with nausea) or sominex. These are perfectly safe to use during pregnancy. Might help.:)

Ok I was told NOT to take UNISOM or SOMINEX but was told and have read all over you can take Tylenol Pm.I am 29 weeks pregnant and take it and have taken it through most of my pregnancy with no side affects to me or my child. It has helped me greatly...Now as for the going to bed and up peeing alot...Stop drinkin about hr or so before bed.If u get urge to go before bed go and usually u only have to go maybe one more time then your done..Sit there till u know its ALL out...lol..All this conbined has helped me GREATLY....The other day I did not nap, took tylenol pm at 5pm went to bed at 7:30pm and slept 11 1/2 hrs.I woke up next day feeling great....Hope this helps

Well all I can say is talk to your doctor and get his opinion. Unisom is used in MANY pregnant women all over for pregnancy. It was origionally used for nausea then more as a sleeping aid. It is proven to be safe and you can even read about it on pregnancy sites!! Same with sominex. Ask your doctor. As far as Xanax DO NOT take that. That is a cla__s D drug and is harmful. I took that when I was not pregnant. It is a great drug to use if needed when not pregnant but can cause birth defects.

Oh and you should not take tylenol PM that is NOT recommended. I know it is difficult when others come on and say you can take this but cant take this and you tend to get many different opinions. The best thing is to speak with your doctor. He will know.

I am now 14w 4d pregnant and the past 3 or more weeks I can finally sleep better although I do get up and pee 2 or 3 times before my usual wakeup time. I have no trouble falling back to sleep either so I am happy but I know when I get to the 3rd trimester I will probably have trouble sleeping due to obvious reasons. I think in the first trimester it was due to my nerves about being pregnant.

I am 30 weeks and a good night s sleep is something of the past. I dont even get tired till around 12-1am. Then I wake up about every 20 minutes tossing and turning, having to pee, or needing a snack. Usually I am wide awake before dawn so sometimes I just get up right when it's barely light out. No point i laying around right!!! I dnt remember my sleep changing though in the beginning. If anything I didn't sleep due to excitement. It wasn't until around 25 weeks to present that bedtime is something I dread whereas I used to love going to bed at night !!! I guess this is nature's way of preparing us for no sleep when the baby arrives !!
