Hi there, Since wk 5, ive had terrible back pain...to the extend some days i could hardly walk it was so sore. It lessened about 13wks, but is still there when i stand too long, or sit too long. (im now 16wks) Not sure why it happens to some and not others...one of those mysteries like m/s! hehe

Back pain is very normal in pregnancy. It happens because of a few different things. As you put on weight your centre of gravity changes and you will start to stand differently and often slouch a lot more, this will put strain on your back and cause pain. Other reasons will be where the baby is lying as you get further along, this can cause pinched nerves and pain (sciatic pain) Also as you progress through your pregnancy your body is getting ready for the birth and all of your ligaments and joints are relaxing to help with getting the baby out of that very small space.... this can create other problems though because your joints are looser than before and are more prone to getting hurt.... as to why some people get it and others dont. I think that by the end of the pregnancy most people suffer some form of bad back, just some worse than others. :-) Hope that helps.
