Lately I've been having really bad hot flashes, my face gets really flushed, my mom said it was high blood pressure, I tried one of those cups at the pharmacy and it was a little higher than normal. I'm 23, thin, pretty healthy overall and I just wondered if being pregnant could cause high blood pressure, my next dr's appt is next week so just lookin for a little advice till then.

Hi Brandi.
Yes, you can develop high blood pressure during pregnancy. I am sort of in the same boat with you...
The last 2 Dr. visits my blood pressure was in the 150's and 160's over 80. Normally I have very low blood pressure. I am hoping that it was just due to the fact that I had to be naked from the waist down both times. Somehow that always gets me pretty jacked up. ;)
My nurse and Dr. just said it was something to keep an eye on.
Just try to stay as relaxed as possible until your next Dr.'s appt. Let us know how it goes!

Yes, you can develop high blood pressure during pregnancy. If I'm right, if it happens before 20 weeks it's called PIH, pregnancy induced hypertension, and after 20 weeks it's pre-eclampsia. You can have a healthy baby even if you develop high blood pressure. You will just be monitored more closely by the doctor, more frequent office visits, more tests, etc. You might be given meds for it. Sometimes it means you will have to have your baby a little sooner than the due date. I had it with both of my pregnancies. They don't usually worry until the lower number is above 90. The other thing is, hot flashes are common during pregnancy and the machines at the store aren't always that accurate. Also, your blood pressure can vary a lot within a few minutes.
