Hello to all,
I am at 22 wks w/ twins and this is my second pregancy. I have been experiencing rapid heart beats after I eat. And it does get me worried but from what I have heard even from my doctor is that it is normal and that if it goes down with in an hour after you sitting still and relaxing you are good. Man where is the hand book about birthen babies and the crazy things that we have to go thru. When some one finds it let me know. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

I'm 20 weeks and I'm experiencing the same thing! Seems that this is more normal that we all think! I've read that heart rate does increase during pregnancy and so does anxiety (hormonal) so put the two together and sort of makes sense. Knowing that it is common makes it easier to deal with - like everything else....this too shall pa__s!

Oh my goodness! So I am not alone! Ladies, I have been experiencing this for quite a while now, but really became concerned on my way to the doctor today when it happened again. Y'all! I was driving! I told the nurse about it and she is squeezing me in today. They think my 7 fibroids may be interfering. You guys, thanks for not being shy. We novices need to have someone to talk to about these things.

I am 10 weeks Pregnant, and I have always expierenced heart palpatations, and Rapid heart rate.....up to 130bpm...but the heart palpations subsided for a long time now. BUT then I got pregnant LOL...and I just started expierencing the skipping heart beats again yesterday, and it is VERY scary! I called my Dr. Right away to let her know, because I dont want anything to be wrong, she said its probably Hormones. I also am expierencing Migraine headaches, that caused the right side of my right eye to have a C shaped strobe of light that caused my vision to get all messed up......anyone else have this happen to them? Oh and My Dr. that was helping me with the heart palpations before I got Pregnant told me if you take a deep breath and lightly bear down like your going to have a bowel movement and hold it for about 20-30 seconds...it will help slow your heart rate down a little. Just a little hint to help you guys out.
Thanks for being here!!! Danica

I too have frequent rapid heart rate. It drains me and makes me really out of breath. When I asked my OB he told me its perfectly normal because while you are pregnant your body is pumping twice as much blood and has to work harder to provide the baby with what he or she needs. He told me when it is very uncomfortable to lie down and rest when possible so that I didn't stress myself needlessly. Don't worry :)

I am almost 13 weeks now, and I just started noticing that my heart rate was faster than usual. Yesterday I measured it at 112 in the afternoon (after coming home from a particularly stressful day at work), and today it is at 96 so far. My blood pressure was 113/76 this morning and was very close to that yesterday afternoon, so I'm not worried, especially after reading these posts. I don't feel that my heart is racing, but I am going to try working out with some very light aerobics every day to see if that helps it lower any.

Yes...I can certainly relate! I have VERY bad heart palpitations daily that occour 4-5 times per day and last 30-45 minutes if not LONGER! Sometime they last an hour and a half. I am 23 weeks pregnant and scared that they will only get worse as I finish out my pregnancy. It really scares me. I've got mitral valve prolapse and I was given a hear monitor for 30 days to record any episodes that I have. I am supposed to turn the monitor in this week and then I am going to schedule a time to meet with my cardiologist about it. I've told my OBGYN and he told me of a few breathing techniques to do when it happens...it doesn't work. But he doesn't seem to be too alarmed. I'm a__suming it is very common. He does know that I am on a heart monitor prescribed by my cardiologist and we are simply waiting on the results to determine a solution as to what is going on. I've been reading alot about heart palpitations while pregnant and most of the comments don't seem too alarming. They just state that there is more blood pumping through the body during pregnancy which causes these palpitations/flutters. BUT IT IS SO SCARY. I worry alot as it is...so this makes evreything worse. I'm worried that I am going to have a difficult time giving birth...that maybe it will be too much of a strain on my heart. It is encouraging to here that I'm not alone, but I hate to hear of someone else going through the same problems. I hope your symtoms improve sooner than later. Thanks for posting your comment.

I answered on here when I was 14 weeks and I'm now just about 26 weeks pregnant and my heart rate is still going strong! Like now I'm just sitting here and my heart rate is about 95 (just checked it). I go through periods where it seems to beat a lot faster than normal for no reason I can see. I also noticed that after I eat my heart races. Last time I was at the doctor my blood pressure was a little high I think.. 121/82? Is that really high or normal? It's so weird!! I don't think they are palpitations, I just notice my heart racing totally hard and really fast. Still scares me somewhat but I've kinda gotten use to it....

it is proven that pregnant womens hearts work 50% harder than when we arent pregnant to get enough blood and oxygen to the baby! ive always had heart palpitations but now at least thjeres a reasdon fo ir. (I have an anxiety disorder.. been to cadiologist, no heart trouble etc..)

FYI---I just read that heart palpitations, shortness of breath and dizziness are some of the symptoms of anemia too (caused by iron deficiency).

I just asked my dr. about this b/c I have a fast heartbeat sometimes and palpatations. She said that our hearts are working harder and that it's normal, unless you blackout or have chest pain. She said that's why younger people have babies and not 50 year olds b/c of the taxing our hearts take.

I am 32 weeks and have just started having this same problem. I am on a beta blocker now that has controlled the fast heart beat however, I cannot get over the anxiety of it. I'm not sleeping at night and I'm terrified of another attack. I've been taking the beta blocker for about 3 days. Does anyone know if it will get better? Also, does this stop immediately after delivery?

I am very relieved to find out that this seems racing heart rate seems to be a common thing in pregnancy. I am 20 weeks pregnant with my first baby and tonight is the second time I have had this episode of rapid heart rate. It drives me crazy, because I want to fall asleep but I can't because I can feel and hear my heart beating. I have noticed that many ladies who have posted their answers and who have had issue with this are pregnant with twins. That's very interesting because my husband is hoping they are twins. I haven't had an ultrasound yet so I don't know how many are in their. That could be very exciting though. Good luck to everyone.

I'm 33 weeks pregnant and I have been experiencing the rapid heart beat thing since I was real early on... I think it's pretty much normal and I think it has something to do with your heart having to pump so much more blood..I read that in a book
