I had some period like cramps when I was between 3-6 weeks. I talked to the doctor and they said as long as the cramping wasn't accompained by bleeding it was normal because your uterus is going through so many changes.

I have had 5 and working on my 6th pregnancy. I am in my later weeks of the first trimester. I have ALWAYS cramped throughout my pregnancies--especially after intimacy with the husband. I have never experienced miscarriage with my cramping. In fact, the two miscarriages I did had did not have pain or cramping surprisingly. I think the cramping is just your muscular uterus disliking the stretch. JMHO though.

Even though I had a positive pregnancy test 2 days ago, I have been "doubting" my pregnancy because of the cramps I feel. Until I read this article, I thought...cramps mean period -- right?

I am 7 weeks pregnant and for the past 2 weeks I was having cramps especially when I sat up for long. Last wednesday (valentine's day) I went to pee and saw streaks of blood. I went to doc immediately since I had a miscarriage June 2006. Well doc said that an inflamed cervix was the cause of the cramps & streaks. Did an ultasound and baby is fine & cervix is closed. I got antibiotics and doc says either not wipe when I pee or use baby wipes as most mothers who end up with an inflamed cervix in pregnancy got infected via the tissue they used even though the wiped in the right direction. he said also not to use powder in the pubic area as that can cause infection too. I am almost done taking the antibiotics now and after about 2 days of taking the cramps have gone. So I think if you have cramps check with doc just to be sure whats causing it. An inflamed cervix can lead to miscarriage or premature birth and we dont want that. Right!? Incidentally my miscarriage last year started with a spottion but no real cramps.

PHOEBE~
This early, cramping could be implantation of the gestational sac into the wall of the uterus.

I had cramps that were around my lower pelvic region the first trimester. Things are fine though they are a normal part of growing and stretching down there. As long as your not bleeding with them your fine.

I am in my 5th week and I've been having the cramping alot this week. Not doubling over cramping.. but more like a dull ache. From reading all of this, it's normal as long as no bleeding? I know I'll just feel a whole lot better when I go to my appointment April 4th and see some hcg levels :)

I havent taken a test yet but i think i may be pregnant. If i am i am 4 weeks. I have cramps. Sometimes it is just a little gas but other times it is painful for no reason. I would have had a period 2 days ago. I am still waiting to take the test. I dont want a false negative.

I am also in my 5th week and have been having some cramping. I was so scared before I found this forum because this is my first pregnancy. Today I should be getting my appointment in my 8th to 10th week so I have a few more to go. As long as I don't see any blood I should be good until then because the cramps aren't really that painful. Good luck to all and I'll keep you posted!

It is a relief to hear that cramping is normal. It is very brief but daily and usually wakes me in the night. I would call it strong as I need to sit down when it is happening. This is my third pregnancy and my other two ended in miscarriage. The first had the same cramping and the second did not. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a test that would give you a guarantee that you would have a healthy little baby in your arms in 9 months!?
