Mustangca__sie: my second hcg was 4600, so it had not doubled. Dr again insinuated it was not viable. Third was a botched test, so we have no result. Fourth was, are you ready for this? 22000! She COMPLETELY changed her tune, and said everything was fine. Sure enough, had the ultrasound and showed embryo, yold sac, and heartbeat of 131. Couple of days later, it was 141. Measures right on time (7 1/2 wks now). What I have read is that the prognosis is still poor when there are slow-rising hcg levels, but she says mine rose properly in the end. What I say? Opt not to have your levels checked. Just have an ultrasound at 7 weeks and see what you see. If there is nothing, then obviously there is a problem and you can figure out how to proceed from there. Hcg testing every two days does nothing but make the mother/parents insane. It's not worth it.

Badger. You and i are like kindred spirits. Nearly exactly the same thing happened to me. One time My levels rose from 19,000 to 19,500 and my dr said to prepare for the worst and then they rose to 36,500. I had u/s at 5.5 weeks and found a sack and yolk, then again at 7wks and found sack, yolk and pole then at 9 weeks we had a sac and a little fetus and you can see a head and an arm sticking out and a crazy heartbeat at 155. am now 11 weeks. You?

Hey, I am going through a similar situation. LMP was 5/14/08. 6 wks later I went in for a U/S and all the Dr. saw was a irregular shaped sac, but nothing else. She said the furthest along I could be was 4.5 wks, which didn't seem possible to me according to my ovulation time. My HCG level at the time of the U/S was 2700. 2 days later it only went up to 3100 and 2 days after that it was only 4100. I have not had any cramping or bleeding what so ever. I'm just really confused. My levels are still rising but not doubling, the dates are way off, and the sac was misshaped with nothing in it. I go in for another U/S in 2 days, should I be optimistic or plan for a miscarriage?

Mustangca__sie: I'm 13w3d now-you? I think we are right about the same. How are you doing? I have had a little spotting in the past 24 hrs but NOTHING else so far. Hoping it's a fluke. I don't visit this site much. I am always on the Jan 09 birth club board on babycenter.com.

badger, I went for my down syndrome scan at 12 weeks (12 june) and they found no heartbeat. They did an internal u/s and found that the little one was forming inside out basically. The little one was measuring 10.5 weeks but had no hope from conception. I don't want to freak you out but I had spotting the week before. I had a vacuum procedure done on the following day on 13 June, (just realised it was friday the 13th...). 21 days later and we are starting to plan to try again. I hope all goes well and keep posting, I'll be checking on you now and then.

Mustangca__sie:
That is truly terrible, and I'm very sorry to hear it. I just had my 1st trimester screen and all looked fine-baby was very active. I'm still concerned about the spotting-I have an appt on Wed.
I wish you all the best for future babies! Hopefully this is a one-time sad situation, and you'll be fine from here on out.

I am having the same confusing Dr. visits. Went in this past Tuesday and because I'm not sure of my dates, they thought I *could* be as far along as 8 wks. Ultrasound only showed sac however so obviously I'm not that far along (nor did I think I was). HCG test came back at 48150 (why are my numbers so much higher than the other ones I'm reading?) I did another HCG yesterday and that one came back at 54500. So now they're freaking me out because it didn't double, but from what I've read here, they stop doubling at 1500 to 2000? The nurse wants me to come back for yet another ultrasound/exam/ and HCG today, but it's only been three days since my previous visit - I feel like they're milking my insurance at this point. Should I be worried or do they just not know what they're doing?

Princess- you can check the hcg levels by week as well as see when it will or will not double at the following website: obfocus dot com. Choose "Common Questions" then "What is beta hCG". Might it be a good idea for you to have an ultrasound or go for a second opinion? Good luck, I hope it all turns out ok.

Thanks. I had another ultrasound today, and it showed a fetal pole and a sac but no heartbeat yet. I am somewhere around 5-6 weeks. I have to go back next Wednesday. All the waiting is killing me. They said to prepare for it not being a viable pregnancy. But is it that odd not to see the heartbeat yet?

Hi there. i have a story similar to Pat's. I have been bleeding for about 1 1/2 wks. The blood started off brown then is slowly went to bright red. There are lots of clots, and things that look sorta like membrane's. I have my blood taken every other day. When I was supposed to be 8 wks my hcg was 3056 then the next day they were 3650 then the next day it was 3900. So they sent me for an u/s. They could only see a sac. so they did an internal u/s. They saw ONLY the sac there was nothing inside of it. I am a 20 year old girl with a 1 year old son and i have no idea what is happening. i am so scared that i will lose this baby. They doctors told me that it does not look so good, but there still is a chance. I am now going for regular blood tests, last Tuesday they were at 6000ish. I am now supposed to be 9 wks. at the end of my bllod work i have to get another u/s. Please somebody, give me hope.

I am kind of in the same situation. It's my first pregnancy and it is fairly early within the pregnancy. I saw my docotr for the first time last Thursday and was told I was going to have a miscarriage. Dr. said that everything looked normal in the ultrasound if it really is 2 - 3 weeks old. Said I need to take blood tests to determine the hcg levels. My first blood test said 2300 and the second on Monday was at 2875. Doctor said it did not double therefore I was definitely going to have a miscarriage. Not sure what to think anymore. After reading this it seems to be somewhat common for those to not have an hcg level double...I have not had any heavy bleeding. I have had a little bit of spotting but it was light pink and some abdominal crampage but was told that was the embryo embedding itself in my uterus because there was a little bit of tissue that was released into the toilet (sorry for being graphic). Any advice? Should I just completely give us? Should I wait before getting a second opinion? Thoughts?

Hi everyone i'm about 3-4 weeks pregnant and my HCG levels have not been increasing the way that they should be, last week they were:
95 48hrs later
143 48hrs later
192 48hrs later they dropped to
144 48 hrs later they went up to
147
Now i know that these numbers are really low, i've had 2 previous MC and 1 ectopic all with the same partner, and we've had tests to check our genes which all came back fine, so what i am wondering is has anyone else been through the same thing as me and had a successful pregnancy? because the doctors have told me to prepare for the worst. I had a scan a week ago, there was no sac visible but my lining had thickened and the doctor said not to worry as it was very early and they would not see anything until my HCG was 1000. Now i'm due for a scan tomorrow and i am slightly worried because the doctors are now looking for a ectopic pregnancy can anyone offer some comforting advice? or a similar experience because i'm sure we're all in the same boat worrying about our pregnancies.

Hi all,
Wow, I am so glad to have found this thread. I just read through the entire thing. It's given me a little bit of hope, but mostly I think I am just reminded to be cautious and that anything can happen.
LMP: Dec. 24/08
Betas:
12 dpo 23
14 dpo 55
16 dpo 87 (not very good)
18 dpo 146
Dr. won't do anymore betas until 28 dpo (Feb.2/09). Which at this point, is fine with me, since doing them every 2nd day has been a nightmarish rollercoaster. I have had no bleeding or spotting, but my symptoms, like the nausea, headaches and peeing all the time, have all been gone for the past 2 days. Like, completely gone. My husband isn't giving up hope, but I just don't feel pregnant anymore. And I'm worried we may end up finding it in my tube.
Mich3ll3, you had a scan last week? My doctor said she won't do one until the hcg levels are at least 1500. You were also having one today. How did that go? I hope you saw something positive!!!

Hi everyone - i'm glad to have found this post and the support for this crazy time. I ovulated Dec 18, 2008.
HCG's:
1-5-09: 38 and progesterone level 9.3 (Dr. said not quality preg)
1-8-09: 670 (Dr. said looks better)
1-10-09: 780 and progesterone level 8.5 (Dr. said not good)
On Jan 21 had US due to side pain and concern of another ectopic. US confirmed sac and(2.5 mm) and no heart beat detected but the ultrasound report says that it may be too early to see the heartbeat. I'm trying to stay positive but having a very hard time - i can't seem to pull myself out of the foggy funky feeling of the impending loss the doctor is sure we are going to face. I am planning on having another US in 2 weeks.
Mich3113 and WOJO3 I'm sending positive thoughts your way!

Hi all well yet again its been a roller coaster of a weekend, my HCG went up to 311 so the doctors said that there might be a slight chance of hope. However during the scan a small ma__s was spotted by my remaining ovary which could possibly be another ectopic so I was freaking out, just had another blood test today after having extreme bleeding and my HCG has decreased to 247 so i think at this point I can finally accept that I am having a miscarriage.
WOJO3 if you are worried about your pregnancy the best advice i can give is just not to worry because its not only dangerous for you but to the baby. If you want to have an early scan you have to ask to be referred to an EPU ward they will start scanning from about 4weeks.
I hope it turns out well for you WOJO3 and glutenfreefox and wish you all the luck in the world, just remember keep calm and stay positive take care x
