Allergy Medication Pregnancy

I just found out that I am pregnant and my (seasonal) allergies have kicked in. Which allergy medication is safest to take? I called my doctor to find out if it's save for me to take my current allergy medication (Allegra) and the girl in the doctors' office asked him and he said yes. That answer seemed to simple so I did some research online and according to it it doesn't seem really save - only if the risks for the fetus outweight the benefit for the mother etc. etc. Any advice?
