Most dr's say that they start to listen for a heartbeat with a doppler, around 12 wks. Before that time its rare to pick it up because the baby is behind the pelvis bone. But on rare occasions, the dr does luck out and hears it sooner. Don't panic if they can't hear it at 12 wks, just give it a little time and you will! The dr also can hear the baby's heartbeat with a stethoscope around 20wks.

Sometimes doctors can pick up the heartbeat as early as 6 weeks. It really depends on how your body build, like me, Im pet_te and the doctor was able to hear the heartbeat at 8 weeks. So really it depends, if you don;t hear one before 12 weeks than it should not really be anything to worry about.
