Angie,
yes, mine is always when the baby has a strong movement and a I'm always sitting or laying down. This started around 28 weeks for me. I'm so glad my hubby can hear it b/c the dr. was starting to make me feel like I was crazy.......

KH, my wife has heard these popping noises too, she is at 30 weeks. She just called me at work asked if I could do a quick internet search for clicking/popping sounds in the womb. I hit your question first thing. After reading some of the answers, I called her right back and read her some of the responses, it was rea__suring. Thanks for asking the question and thanks all for the discussion it generated.

I am 26 wks pgnt and have just begun to hear these noises within me - like a click/crack sound.. I'm not too concerned though as I had exactly the same thing with my daughter (who is now 7 yrs and perfectly normal). I just a__sumed it was joint movement and was a genetic thing, as my husband's knees and elbows click all the time when he is excercising or walking up stairs. My son (11 yrs) who has a different dad didn't 'click' at all!
It's interesting that it could have been thumb sucking - as my daughter sucked her thumb from birth, and my son never has - I'd never thought of that. Also her shoulder dislocated when she was a baby once so that also could have been something to do with it..

I have heard that the mother's ribs spread a bit to accomodate the baby when it gets bigger. And I have also heard that when babies are moving energetically, they can knock against your ribs. Is it possible that the clicking sound is your ribs?

my baby had the hiccups all the time, but it was never a__sociated with the clicking noise. i still think it was ligaments stretching. i actually thought i heard it today, (inside me), and my baby is 4 days old now.

I am almost 31 weeks and have been hearing this click/pop noise for several weeks now. It mostly seems to happen when my baby is moving. One time it did happen when I turned and bent quickly. This makes me think that it is the ligaments. I was having some issues with round ligament pain some time ago and now I don't get much of the pain but the click/pop sound was starting to concern me. I am glad I am not the only one and to hear that everyone has gone on to have healthy happy babies.

I think the ligament argument is a good one, but for me, I'm still thinking that there are pockets of air in the sac and the sound is from the baby moving briskly through them. :) I'm really glad people are still discussing this b/c my dr. looked at me very strangely!

I have the same thing (5-6 times an hour or more when the baby is awake!) and asked my OB/GYN about it today and she said sometimes it can be air in the sac, or sometimes a fracture in the baby's bone, but since all the ultrasounds have been fine, she is a__suming just air. Mine is audible to anyone within a few feet of me.

My doctor suggested ligaments, also, with my first pregnancy. I can buy into the air thing, too.
