Hi Ladies! Im 22 wks pg w/ my 1st and I plan to stop working when I enter my 3rd tri (that would be around 27 wks, right?) Im due in May. Im in pain constantly.......mostly on my lower back. I work at a Call Ctr so Im always sitting down for long periods of time. I was wondering, do you think my doctor would ok'd me to stop working? Can I ask him to write me a doctor's note that I can't work due to my pain in my lower back? What are your thoughts about this? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

I work in a call center as well, and had surgery to remove a thrombose hemhoroid at 33 weeks. I was out for 2 weeks for that, but it got to be too much about 2 weeks before my due date. I wa sore and sitting was tough. Since my doc did not want to induce, she wrote me out of work. So I was off for almost 3 weeks bf due date.Baby was 6 days late. As long as doc says its okay, it should be fine with work, as long as you are ent_tled to it from their guidelines!

Hi Rachael mommy2lucas! Once I get a doctor's note and I gave that to my employer, does that take in effect right away or do I have to wait?

Most doctors are only concerned with the well-being of the patient, and they normally will gladly put you off of work if you feel it is best physically and/or mentally. Both physical and mental stress should be avoided. Just IMO, I wouldn't give the note to my boss until right before you're ready to go on leave. Otherwise, it could make for a tense situation leading up to that moment. Best of luck!

Well you sit at work...will you be sitting at home as well? Do you really need your job? If not go home and relax these last few weeks?

I'm 26 weeks now and was put on sick leave at 24 weeks due to cramping and backaches. I was standing for long periods of time and my body just didn't take it. The doctor wrote me off no problem.

Oh Tess my doctors "note" went to unemployment so I get paid sick leave. I just told my work I was done(gave them a weeks notice) You'll have to talk to somebody in your area.

Im sure your doc. would write you a note. And seems like it would take effect immediately, especialy if your doc. puts a certain date on it,wouldent it?

It really depends on the doctor. I had a doctor before tell me that I should be able to work 12-hour shifts while I had preeclampsia, and I had another doctor who had me cut back to 6 hours a day at 18 weeks, then stop working in the 3rd trimester.

I work in HR and I can tell you that your employer will have to let you go the day the doctor makes your leave effective. Out of courtesy, you should give the note to your job right away. I'm sure there shouldn't be hard feelings. Things happen all the time. Besides, there is a law that forbids treating you differently just because you're pregnant. Once you're considered disabled, there is no argument. If you don't want to stop working so soon, you can also have the doctor decrease your hours per day and require that you get a certain break, say 15 minutes, so you can relieve your back. An employer should accommodate this request for light duty.

Thanks to all that replied to my thread :)Dh and I have talked about it and yes, I will stop working when I enter my 3rd tri. First off, it can get really stressful at work...(w/ customers n such) 2nd, Im having alot of discomfort on my lower back.....( I can't tolerate it ) The reason Im askin for that doctor's note is because I have std benefits at work....I need a written note from my Dr that I can't work so I can collect my benefits...if I dont then I won't get paid (at least) Btw, whats thats about you get unemployment benefits? Can you do that? I thought you have to be let go by your employer in order to collect unemployment benefits? I don't know how these things work...Im pretty clueless?? (can't yah tell?) To the last poster-you said you work in HR the thing w/ my work is...Im a temp. (long term type) we have an Onsite Manager for my Temp. Co. and it seems like shes pretty clueless too? (so Im stuck??) Im the 1st one in my dept. to this stuff...So I don't have any clue on where and who to ask? If I showed them my doctor's note, you said they will let me go right away? Does that apply to me if I have std benefits w/ them? Right now Im undecided if Im coming back or not...I would like to wait and see til my daughter arrives. I hope someone would be able to ans. these q's. Thanks again!

Being out ouf work with a doctors note would definitly be covered under short term disability.

Tess - January 15

JB thats what I thought too....being out of work or if Im unable to work then I would be cover under my std benefits....I just got confused when some1 said they're collecting unemployment benefits??

There's a great website I found where you can see what kind of work accommodations you are entitled to and even get help with your doctor's note- wwwDOTPregnantatWorkDOTorg
Hope this helps!!
