On Wednesday I was 3 cm dilated and the last two days I have been passing lots and lots of mucus. What does this mean?

This is normal, I had the same thing. Usually late in pregnancy, especially if you are dialated, your body produces more mucus. For whatever reason. Now, if the mucus has been bloody, you may have lost your mucus plug, which must come out before the baby can be born. It plugs your cervix. This can also be called "bloody show". Talk to your doctor if you get overly concerned.

I am due today and nothing is happening! No pains, no show nothing? Is there anything I can do to speed up the process?

To Georgia,
HI. If you are not showing any signs of labor, I would just wait until you do! Only 5% of women who are pregnant actually deliver on their due date. So, I would give it another two weeks. Going over two weeks past your due date is,in most cases, an ok thing to do. Your due date may be off a little as well, that is very common. I know how frustrating it can be to be 40 weeks pregnant and no signs if labor, but your baby knows the right time to be born. It is really not safe to do things to induce labor, although there are things that women have done and do do that may bring labor on. Before I tell you these things, please call your doctor and discuss it with him/her before you try and "induce" labor on your own. You don't want to do anything that could harm you or your baby. Castor Oil is a natural laxative that stimulates the intestinal wall and in turn may, not always, stimulate the uterus to contract. Now, understand that if you do this there is a very good chance that you will have diahhrea for a good day or so (provided you take the recommended dosage to try and start labor)and it may not work. Anything you try to start labor WILL NOT work unless your baby is ready to come. Walking sometimes works, having s_x sometimes works and there are herbs you can take that midwives use to induce labor. You can also try nipple stimulation, this works for some people. Talk with your doctor if you decide you don't want to go too much over you due date. I would advise to stay away from pitocin, if you chose a synthetic method of induction, it causes a much harder labor. Good Luck and try to be patient!
