Pam will you stop saying there are no facts it's harmful? IT IS A FACT that marijuana contains MORE BENZOPYRINE, which CAUSES CANCER, than cigarettes do!! IF CIGS ARE HARMFUL... SO IS MARIJUANA. PERIOD.

My neighbor at one of my old apartments was a nurse who knew that I smoked weed. One day we talked about it and she said she didn't condone it, but could see why people did it over drinking b/c of how less harmful it actually is to your body than alcohol. Then she proceeded to tell me about a study she had just read about how babies born to mothers who smoked pot actually learned to walk, talk, and crawl sometimes faster than others and showed no signs of damage, such as a crack baby. Since marijuana isn't an addictive drug like heroine or cocaine, the baby wouldn't be born and go through withdrawls like with other drugs.

I'm six months pregnant w/ my second child, and yes on occa__sion I smoke pot., as I did with my first, he weighed exactally 9lbs and at 3 is substantually intellagent for his age. He knows his address, abc's, colors etc.I lost 15lbs due to morning sickness with him, and smoking here and there eased my nausea, as with this baby. I'm not saying no one is int_tled to their opinion, or to get high every day, you are going to do what you want regardless, just don't over do it.

I don't want to sound holier than thou, I am not perfect by any means. I have many close friends and family members who smoke pot quite a bit, some who I knew before they smoked and they've turned out to be ...somewhat dumba__ses. I mean lets face it, even if there is no scientific proof to support that marajuana smoking is harmful to your unborn child...do you really need to be a genius to figure out it probably could be. I find it quite humorous that another link on this website poses the question whether you can drink wine or not while pregnant, some people were freaking out about that! But I can't believe there are more people who believe it's ok to smoke pot while pregnant than to have an occasional gla__s of wine. As far as the morning sickness goes, most all of us get it and it's not unusual to not be able to eat much during your 1st trimester. I don't want to sound harsh because I (all of us) know how difficult it can be some days, but I just can't believe it has taken you 7 months of being pregnant to finally wonder if what your doing could be harming your baby. I can't help but think that it may be proof that you have already smoked too much!

I have had one child and now im pregnant again i could not keep any food down at all or even fluids so i was basically starving my baby. I told my doctor about how people say pot helps morning sickness he told me it was true and it was not a bad idea to use small amounts if its going to help me keep my food and fluids down. I have been smoking pot for quite some time and dont seem to have turned out as a "dumba__s", as i work in the law industry as a solicitor so i dot not agree that everyone who smokes pot is going to turn out to be a "dumba__s".

The biggest problem here is not so much the pot smoking itself as the att_tude about it. WHY would you put a helpless baby at risk like that? A baby who never asked you to be it's mother? If you can't make the decision to stop smoking it while you're carrying this child what will you do when you have to make the decision between getting high and paying your baby's doctor bill? or getting high and putting food on the table? If you're not responsible and unselfish enough to do it now, what makes you think you'll do it later?

da nile - July 12

everyone here is in denial. denial makes it so you can justify the risk. the risk you refuse to admit exists.

All I here from the smokers is....."I" have not read conclusive evidence....or "I" have always been a smoker and will continue to....or "I" have morning sickness....so "I" will smoke. Well...Listen up smokers.....there no more "I"....you have a baby inside of you that is growing and fighting everyday to live!! You cannot give up smoking weed for 9 months??? Is that such a HUGE sacrafice to make for you child to give him or her the BEST possible start?? And I WAS an occasional smoker until the day I found out I was pregnant. It stopped 100%! I also had VERY BAD morning sickness and lost weight....but did not use that as an excuse to smoke. You get thru it...just like anything else. Stop being so selfish an only thinking of yourselves....think about what harm you could potentially be doing to your unborn child!

exhale. SB makes an excellent point.

randi - July 13

yes!!!! it causes brain damage stunts growth many many things grow up and be a mother dont have children if you cant stop drugs. im was a baby that was premi had learning disorders all from someone who should have not have had children i now am ellergic from weed

concerned again - July 13

granted the risks to an unborn child are unproved and unknown but why take the risk??? For those with morning sickness.... ever heard of compazine or pfenergan?

pink - July 13

my o my, Ok here is the latest. I do not know you all but let me say this. the smoke is the one harmful for your baby, as well as the posibility of the baby being taken away in the hospital because the government has banned the used of MJ. and it is not wise to use drugs while pregnate ( by the way I smoke everyday ) becuase of the concentration given to a developing brain, however Mj it is not addictive, it is not harmful ( more harmful is a beer or a cigarrette) and there is NO study ( aside from those of the government which we all know are biased) that prove otherwise. so stop smoking for your baby but as soon as you get out light one up

Abby - July 13

If you are that selfish to even have to consider taking ANY drugs while pregnant, you really shouldn't be having a baby at all, you should consider adoption. There are plenty of good couples in this world who would love a baby enough not to do drugs anyway. And when you have your baby, you shouldn't have things like that around it anyway. What a horrible mother you will make.

Chris - July 13

I a__sume that the people who told you it wouldn't hurt the baby were high when they answered your question. Or hoping you'd buy a little more or something because whoever told you that flat out lied.

Pam - July 14

You people are so ignorant, using your opinion on what you feel the negative effects of marijuana are to belittle others. Do you think the doctor was high too that told the girl it was okay to use it in moderation to help keep food down. Just so you know this message board isn't here to make people feel like idiots for asking questions, it's here to help people. So unless you can get your point across without being rude why don't you keep your "opinions" to yourselves!

JA - July 14

Why is anyone trying to justify this? Do you realize that smoking pot is ILLEGAL??? What would the doctor do if you went into labour just after you smoked a joint? I would hope that he would be calling social services immediatly. Having the ability to have children is one of the greatest gifts in the world and you have the nerve and audacity to jepordize the health of your baby just because you cannot face your life without being high!! How could you, really I am curious, and to "your freind" there are millions of women who suffer with morning sickness that do not use it as an excuse to justify smoking pot. Nice try, and "Darla" as if- anyone with half a brain knows that smoking anything during pregnancy harms you child, think about it, what does it do to your brain when you smoke pot?? And you don't think it would have an effect on a DEVELOPING brain. If crystal didn't know it was harmful then she has obviously smoked a bit too much pot. I am appaulled that anyone would ever try to justify that. What next?? Drinking calms peoples nerves so should I have a drink when I'm upset? Or do some coke when I have a long night ahead of me. Come on.
