i don't know about you, but when i was pregnant i felt so exhausted all the time that i just had to stop smoking. aside from the possible health risks to the baby (which may not even exist), i think that it would be a good idea for you to quit at least till you have the baby just to be sober for a few months. when i quit at about 5 months it was the first time in years that i had gone for any length of time without smoking weed. i had forgotten what it felt like to be sober. i'm really glad i did stop for those months because it gave me a chance to clear my head and focus, its hard to explain because when you smoke regularly you don't realize that when even when you're not high you're not sober. You didn't mention how often you smoke so maybe this doesn't apply to you.
my son is four weeks old now and doing great (before anyone jumps on me i know it's still to early to tell for sure) but i have been in a wierd depression since he was born, untill earlier this week when i finally got high again. If you don't smoke for months, when you do start up again it will only take 2 or 3 hits to get you quite stoned. some people will say that if you get high you won't be a good mom, but hopefully you're not dumb enough to get so blazed you can't take care of your baby. like someone else said, moderation makes a big difference. anyways good luck and i hope your baby is healthy.
oh yeah and since i always tested positive for thc at my doctors appts during those first 5 months, my charts always said i used marijuana, the people who did my ultrasound knew and the nurses and the doctor in the delivery room knew and they all asked me about it. even if you keep smoking you better make sure you stop well before you have the baby, and you never know it could come early.

Yes weed can cause the same effects as cigaretts. i smoked weed when I was pregant and I had my baby 1month early Its a little late for you to stop cause youve already caused the damage but its never to late to stop for when the baby does come. As of now my baby is 6 months old and doing wonderful, but if i could go back I wouildnt ever have smoked.

I don't understand why people smoke that c___p in the first place... my ex always did it to "relax" I just thought "you don't know how to relax yourself? you need something to do it for you?" to me that just tells me you're weak.

My best friend has smoked weed since she was 16, she is now 32. She smokes everyday, even several times a day. She got pregnant and didnt stop smoking right away. At 15 weeks she miscarried, well actually she gave birth. (Less than 3% of miscarriages happen that late in pregnancy). Her baby was totally deformed. At 15 weeks a fetus should have certain features, like arms and legs. Hers did not. Does pot harm fetuses? She sure is a believer now. Duh, look what pot does to us, imagine the impact it can have on a tiny ball of tissue that has to develop into a little person in 9 months. I know how distracted pot makes me. I guess it is no wonder my friends baby never developed properly. It was high!

And how many of these woman who ended up with babies who had learning disabilites and low birth weights, where taking something other than marijuana? How many of them had experimented with much harder drugs? That's the real question. As long as you eat right, excerise, see your doctor on a regular basis, and don't abuse smoking mary j, your baby should be fine. I smoked with all three of my children, and they are all healthy, without learning disabilites, and they weren't under weight when they were born.

I just can't understand how someone can't go 9 freakin months without it... come on! If they told me to give up chocolate completely I would do it (which I did cut back GREATLY on chocolate.. I only eat it a tiny bit once in a while). I don't care what it is, if there's even a chance it's gonna harm my baby.. I'll give it up. Think about it... marijuana isn't the best substance for you to be using when you AREN'T pregnant... why would it be okay when you ARE pregnant? and I bet if you quit for the full 9 months you WOULD notice a difference.

I am also 7 mos. prego, and i smoked to control my morning sickness, and afterwards, my doctor says my baby is perfect so far and exactly where he should be as far as development. I researched the possble problems and found nothing conclusive. children who are "slow" as some of you say, may have been affected, but how do you know? disabled children are born everyday to mothers who were never even around smoke. there is no scientific evidence, or specific cases where marijuana has been proven to negativly affect baby during pregnancy.

april- there is NO conclusive evidence that marijuana does anything. do yourself and everyone a favor and do some research before you start preaching.

and for goodness sakes.. it's common sense... marijuana effects your behavior... it obvioiusly does SOMETHING to you... whether it's "conclusively" harmful or not I don't care... I'm not one to take chances with my baby's health... plus with the posters on the effects of marijuana and tabacco posted in every room of my doctor's office... it kinda tells me that just maybe it's not good for the baby... aaaaand... marijuana contains more of the cancer causing carcinogin benzopyrine than tobacco does... how can that not be harmful?

this website could answer some of your questions. there are controversies on the effects. there are cases where a women did cocaine her entire pregnancy and the baby was fine. my mom smoked cigarettes during her 2 pregnancies and my brother and i are fine...however, why take such a risk??? it is your BABY for crying out loud!!

when will people get it through their thick heads that marijuana is NOT addictive???? As for smoking it while pregnant, I bet all you concerned and shocked people on this thread would quite happily drink loads of soda and eat readymade convenience foods packed with every chemical under the sun while you are pregnant, and take all the drugs your doctor tells you to, while jumping on people who want to use something that has been used as a medicine for hundreds of years. Before you all jump on me and say that doctors know best, anyone remember that charming little drug thalydomide? Doctors were prescribing it left, right and centre for years before the connection was made between it and all the horrific birth defects!! Get real, people, start thinking for yourselves, do some research that isn't biased either for or against, and if you don't know what you're talking about, b___t out! MJ is illegal because of prejudice, it was made illegal as a way of controlling the Mexicans coming across the border (bringing their pot with them) in the early part of the 20th century. I can't say it enough, I am sooooooo sick of you people out there who are ignorant, biased, and downright stupid, you follow what your government tells you without question. PS-most of you talk about drugs as though they are all the same, stating cases where birth defects were caused by "drugs", then mentioning cocaine, heroine, tobacco and alcohol. I thought this thread was about weed? Stick to the subject you morons!
