My wife and I decided to try for a baby. This November. Her period cycle started 28th October. We didn't have unprotected s_x until 19th November. Her next cycle didnt arrive so we took a pregnancy test. Which gave a positive result, we tried again 3rd December and again positive. My wife booked an appointment at the doctors, took her pregnancy test with her (both times the positive line has been faint) the doctor said pregnant. Previously she was on the pill , she has been on this for years. But before the pill her periods were all over the place. The pill made it every 28 days. She stopped taking the pill in September. When I read about ovulation it all seems impossible . I am starting to doubt if she is pregnant and worry about getting hopes up.

Taking a pregnancy test with you doesn't accomplish much - the results are invalid after 10 minutes. You are right to puzzle about getting pregnant from s_x only one week before her period. Could you have had a contraceptive malfunction a week earlier? Did the doctor run a preg test in office? You should be able to count on that. If still in doubt, run another test. The hormone doubles every few days and the line should be much stronger this time. Does she not have any early preg signs to complain about? That would be a little odd.
