My pregnancy was a surprise, prior to finding out, and for about 6 weeks I continued to smoke...at 12 weeks I stopped completely

Good for you! Your baby will thank you one day....my poor dh has serious asthma linked to his mom smoking...I know it must have been hard but you really are giving your unborn child a chance at a healthy life.

My mother smoked while she was pregnant with me and i was ill and had to stay in the hospital for over a week. Then when I was in kindergarten, the school did their annual hearing tests and thats when they found out that I am completely deaf in my left ear. I am positive that it happened because of my mothers smoking. I am otherwise a healthy adult......

I smoked throughout my preg , more than you , and my son is now 7 was born over normal birth wieght and has prefect health , the most serious being a tummy bug ! I believe everything in moderation . If i bacame preg again i would not smoke as i am alittle older now but not everything can be put down to having a ciggy .

I am sorry but I have to say this. If you are smoking while your pregnant then that is rediculous. When I found out I was pregnant I had been smoking about one pack and 1/2 a day and quit cold turkey a day or two later. Just knowing that there was a developing BABY inside me was enough to quit. I am not going to tell you the statisics or what you are doing to your unborn child but I will say I have no sympathy for anyone of you who says " I Cant quit" because you can if you really wanted to. Its called will power which many of you lack.

my mom smoked while she was pregnant with me and my sister. We are both fine. Neither of us have asthma, which does run in the family. Neither of us had any health problems whatsoever..

I am having a very hard time reading all of this. PLEASE stop smoking, all of you. I had a miscarriage earlier this year and just found out that I am pregnant again. I did nothing wrong the first time, ate healthy, rested and all. You are all blessed to pregnant and can absolutely harm your baby. This baby is innocent and how could you live with your self if something happenend b/c you are addicted to something that could harm your child. Think of your baby first.

I am 20 weeks and still smoke, and feel guilty as hell. I was told to take Nicoderm for 2 weeks, is this a good idea?

to jamie - September 7

No, the pharmacy told me any type of quit-smoking aid is NOT safe during pregnancy, and you are much better off just cutting down.

I am sorry for your loss but if we could quit smoking, don't you think we would have already? Have you read a single word any of these women have written?? They are trying, and the guilt is killing them that they haven't done so yet, or it took so long to do. I, like others, have come here for support and suggestions on how to quit, and not your pity or disgust. Really, if you are not going to help me, or any of the other women here, then don't tell me what i should and shouldn't be doing, when you obviously have no idea what we are going through. It's hard, VERY hard, and i do feel remorse for my mistakes as a teenager, but it's not like any of us are PROUD to be smokers, we ARE TRYING to quit.

You need to speak to a medical professional about this. It is NOT good to smoke with your baby; and simply because a few friends appear to have normal children, doesn't mean yours will be...or for that matter, that theirs will be. They might have learning disabilities you aren't aware of, among other things. Smoking shrinks the brain and stunts developement of the body. Are 120+ toxins and smoke worth your child's health - present and future?

to the 'perfect' people - September 8

being hateful doesn't help. do you avoid each and every possible danger or risk? no. nobody does. not saying smoking is ok, just saying we're all guilty of something. maybe it's a sip or two of wine, not eating properly, not taking our daily prenatals, fighting with a spouse, cleaning a litter box, having caffeine, using household chemicals, lifting too much and i could go on and on. all these things aren't best for baby. at least some are trying to stop. some credit is due. let's work on ourselves.

hey, at least she's not smoking crack...give her some credit!! Flores, my mamma smoked cigs with me and i was just fine, 8lbs.9oz fine. ha! good luck to you. if you want true support, go to your birthing hospital and sign up for a smoking cessation course. here is a baaaaaaaad place for real support, though nice gals like me do exist here too. ((((hugs))))

b___stfeeding is also best. how many of the 'perfect' ones will? and for how long? two months because it's too much trouble. how sad.

another ? - September 8

how many of you will be staying home with your children instead of having others raise them for you? it is best for mother to be home. some are not able to do whats best. we can all judge. it's better to be supportive.
