I feel your pain. My baby (2.5 months) got 5 shots at his 2 month check-up. DH opted for 5 rather than the standard 3 b/c the incidence of fever decreased. I made my hubby go, as I could not bear to watch my darling suffer. He had a fever for 2 days and was not the same for ~ 1.5 weeks following. I do not think that there is any way to minimize the discomfort, other than holding and cuddling him often, after the shots. My baby was extra clingy for several days and acted strangely. He is back to normal, thankfully:)

Wow! E that is terrible. I wish those doctors would think of a better way of doing this or come up with some way to just have to give them one or better yet a pill or something (wouldn't that be nice). I guess us mommies are all in the same boat....thank you for your respondse :)

My baby had 3 shots too, i can't bear to watch!! Thankfully, she didn't react at all, in fact she slept for most of the afternoon, which was good. Strangely enough, this time i was told NOT to give her pain releif prior to the injections, that way they could they monitor any reaction she may have to them better, instead of being masked by a pain reliever. Sheesh, its so confusing when things change. I gave her pain relief anyway, the less pain she felt, the better i feel.

The shots when they're infants are actually easier, because they do them in the thigh. My daughter recently reached the age where they started giving her shots in her arm. That seems a lot harder to me. One thing that I've done when my daughter has shots is to bring my own bandaids. My daughter gets a skin irritation from the cheap ones the doctor's office uses, and it's usually worse than the shots themselves.

My daughter had her shots a week ago and it was two in one leg and one in the other thigh. It was horriable. The one thing I would recoment is when its tiem for you to remove the bandaids make sure you use warn water before trying to pull them off. This was our first mistake our daughter screamed so hard she stopped breathing and I wanted to smack hubby for pulling them off- even though I had told him to lol.

Skyfeather: Yes I know, those little bandaids are horrible. they stick like super glue to thier skin. I was actually thinking of telling them not to put any bandaids on afterwards but I was so upset I forgot. Maybe baby oil would help too!

Last month my daughter got her first set of shots The first one wasn't too bad but the second one really made her cry as did I they gave her one in each thigh they did say that the one vac has something in it that stings alittle so thats what hurt the most I'm not looking forward to next month because shes due for her 4 month shots arg!! I've never heard of the third shot though only 2 at a time.Unless each doc is different and spaces them out different.

my baby is due for the 2 mth shot soon. but my doc gave me a choice. 1)5 separate shots 2) 1 3in1 shot the other 2 orally 3) 1 3in1 and the other 2 orally but these have a lower incidence of fever. needless to say i chose the last. but my baby's appt is early jul. So i dun know if it's really better. but as far as i know, these options are available..

Wenling - It is the 5 separate shots that have the lower incindence of fever. That is why we chose it. Also, choice two and three are the same in your post. Did you mean to type something else?

E - you're right. my choice 2 and 3 are the same.. let me do it again.. Now with my child's health booklet in front of me. These are the 3 choices and the prices quoted to me : 1)FREE. Diphtheria-1shot Pertussis-1shot Teta__s-1shot poliomyelitis-1shot hib(optional)-1shot 2)S$260. Diphtheria,Pertussis, Teta__s as a 3in1 shot. poliomyelitis 1 oral dose hib 1 shot 3)S$294.70. Diphtheria, Pertussis teta__s and hib as 1shot poliomyelitis as 1 oral dose I hope it's clearer this way. The doc explained to me that choice 1 has the highest incidence of fever while choice 3 has the lowest. That was why the price is also highest. And he will have to go for it on month 3 , month 4 for 2nd dose then month 5 for 3rd dose and 3rd dose of hep B.

WENLING: That seems like a lot of money for shots. I don't know if you would consider this but the health departments give them for free. I currently have an HMO and it is included in their care (along with what they charge us per month of course for the family) and I have never been given an option for how I wanted the shots or whatever. It seems that they have their own scheduale of shots. Maybe it varies by state?? I'm in Virginia-how about you?

We were told the opposite by our pediatrician. Perhaps she was wrong? Wouldn't surprise me.... I will ask again at his 4 month checkup. Our baby had 5 shots, and had a mild fever for 2 days.

E- ya it think i will be checking again with the doctor to be doubly sure. Liz- The place that i go to is a government aided polyclinic. So, the prices are already heavily subsidised the prices are also inclusive of the 2nd and 3rd dose as well as the 4th dose somewhere when baby is abt a yr old. And i live in singapore so the prices are in sin dollars.

wen ling: you're from sin?? lol! which poly clinic you bring your baby to?? when's his birthdate?? my son is born on 25th apr. how abt yours? want to meet up??

b___st or bottle feed during the shots. do one shot per visit even if it means going once a month instead of every 3 or 6. That's what we have done and we haven't had any problems with it. There is something called c_mulative toxicity where too many chemicals are injected with so many shots at once. This way, my little girl has more time to let her body naturally dispose of all the poisons and preservatives in vaccines and there are many!
