My baby just had his 6 month check up and they told me that he should be seen again at 9 months and that there will be no shots at that visit. So I was like That's great! :) then I'm told that they will check his blood (through a finger stick) to make sure his iron level is OK. (Supposely this is a routine check for all babies because they want to make sure they are not anemic when they go on milk at 1 yr) I think these doctors just love to pinch and poke little tiny babies. I think it is bad enough that they have to go through all those shots and now they want to p___k him with a needle! Forget it! I'm going to decline it because I don't think it is neccessary. Does anyone have any thoughts on this. Is it just me that feels this way? or should I go along with this???

Thanks Liz, you inadvertantly answered one of my questions from another post. I hope someone is able to answer yours.

Liz, iron level and TB test are sort of routine at 9 months. Also if led poisoning is suspected there is another test for that as well. My opinion, if you are going to question your doctor's prudency you should do it by getting another doctors opinion. He's responsible to follow protocol but you also have the right to know what is done and why to your baby.
