Breastmilk Formula Back To Work

Some women on here mentioned they use formula when they go back to work for daycare and then br___tmilk at home. Does this work well and does your baby start to prefer the formula? My daycare person suggested this also so I don't have to stress about getting enough milk pumped while at work or whatever and I didn't know how well it works. She'll be there about 7.5 hours a day so I assume she'll eat at least three times by the time she's 12 wks old but I don't want her to get hooked on formula either as I'm br___tfeeding to save money but I worry about not keeping my milk up enough to keep her fed while in daycare.

With bottle feeding the nurse told me that it requires a new learning experience to suck and then once they know they realize its much faster and easier with the bottle rather than working for it like with the b___st and once they know bottle its hard to back to b___st. I never tried it but that's what I was told. If you want to save money maybe go that route and spend that extra time to pump which is also better for the infant nutritiously at least untill 6 months and then bottle feed. That's what I did. By 6 months they also can start on solids to replace two milk feedings. When I b___stfed I can never figure out how much he ate because I cannot see the amount of intake. When I stopped at 6 months he was happy with 6 0z. He's now 8 months and he still wants to drink the same amount at certain times of the day. For a 12 week old, I'm not sure how much they drink in a feeding. Ask your doctor how much milk in total she should be taking in a day. That's how we figured out to divide the formula in bottles.

If you do decide to formula-feed, even occasionally, I'd start now - my daughter absolutely refuses formula with everything she's got. She'll take a bottle, but you better keep that fake stuff away from her...lol...b___st milk tastes better than formula, so you might have a hard time getting her used to the switch.

If you are really wanting to b___stfeed, then I would just pump. My daughter would not go back to the b___st when dh fed her formula.

I b___stfeed my son when I'm home and he is formula fed when I'm at work. It has worked wonderful for us. I too wanted to save money. I use Enfamil LIPIL because it is the closest to b___stmilk. I also use the playtex natural latch bottle because it is very similar to the b___st. I use one can of Enfamil (I think around 200 oz.) in about a month. My husband started giving him a bottle of b___stmilk around 4 weeks of age. It took us a few weeks but finally he got the hang of it. I've never had a problem with him rejecting the b___st. I would be happy to answer any more questions.

I do pump but worry about keeping up after I go back to work for her to have milk at daycare. I do give her a bottle of b___stmilk here and there and she never has a problem going back to the b___st. She seems pretty good that way and I've tried about 6 different nipples with her already as I can't seem to find a slow enough flowing one! She gags on everything I buy!!!!

Can you pump at work somehwere privately and store it in the fridge in a lunch box so no body can see what it is? Or pump late at night. You can pump enough milk for your child. You produce as mcu as baby demands it. Supply and demand production. So don't worry about not making enough. You can refrigerate up to 3 days and if you freeze it it will last for 2 months and use it whever you need it.(Thaw frozen in fridge/cool water). You can start now for feedings for at the daycare. I'm sure they have a fridge and freezer to store the milk for you and they can defrost as they need it too. Bottle feeding is a new learning experience. Breasts don't squirt as much as bottles do.

I don't know about that! This morning I was really full and my daughter was feeding and let go for a minute and was squirming around so I looked down and my b___b was squirting milk really fast all over her face! Ha ha! Poor kid! That's what happens when I watch the price is right and feed. Just not paying attention. Ha ha!

That's funny. But what about pumping for daycare. What are you going to do?
