Daycare Pumping Oh Boy I Need Some Help

Natalia is now 2 months old (actually 10 weeks, but hey, who's counting, right?) and my mom has been watching her. Well, it seems like mom has forgotten just how much attention little babies need, and it has gotten to be too much for her. So, I now have to find a daycare for her. Any suggestions as to questions I should be asking, things to look for? Also, I am pumping while I am at work - anyone else manage to keep their supply up enough to continue with br___tmilk only while working full-time? What can I do to ensure I pump enough? Any help ladies, on how you managed to put baby in day care and not go insane, keep your milk supply up and, oh yea, get baby to sleep through night, or at least 5 hours straight at night? I've got her giving me a 4 - 4 1/2 hr stretch, but I'd KILL for 5 or 6 hrs. When can I look forward to that? Thanks a million!!

I pump and work full time. I drink a lot of water and pump every 3-4 hours. I pump until I get 4 oz which is what my son drinks at every feeding. Swaddling did wonders for my son that kept waking up at night. Have you tried that? Now he sleeps from 7-7. I dont know anything about the day care...my mom is taking care of my son. I know its hard.... I hope someone can give you some good advice.

I used to work in a nursery now i have just booked my daughter into a nursery two days a week starting april, to give you an idea of what I look for: General feel of the place, look round as many as you can, mature staff, ask about turnover of staff you dont want grumpy unhappy or very young immature staff, a really good thing is daily record books so you know what your child did, and you can give messages to nursery, without having to talk to all staff, look for good ratios, standard is 1 adult to 3 babies, my nursery is 2 adults to 5 babies, staff with first aid quals, do they have routines for feeding or follow child (follow child better if youve been feeding on demand, what things they do with babies, eg at the one jasmin is booked into they do activities like music time, free painting in nappies, freezing toys into blocks of ice to learn science, look how happy the children look, i like a mix of carpet and lino (my preference) so the place feels homely. but id also like help with how to pump at work, the thought is it might be hard, im not an efficient pumper, i guess i neec to practice!

practice and practice and pump as often as you can. Drink lots of water and eat very well. I pump at least 5 times a day since I have already established my milk supply. The more I eat and drink water the more milk I seem to have.

I am an exclusive pumper, my baby never latched on and we both got frustrated with putting her to b___st. Pumping for me works well, I make sure to pump every 3-4 hrs like others have said. It is also helpful when pumping to have a picture of baby around to help with let down. There is also "mothers milk tea" that you can drink that help to stimulate and increase milk supply. You can get it at any natural food store, or in the health food section of the grocery store. I hope this info helps... good luck missy!

p.s. there are also herbs you can take to help increase milk supply. La Leche League suggests taking blessed thistle and fenugreek each day to aid in milk production. If you google this info, you will find all kinds of stuff on these herbs and what benefits they have.

KrisD, Have you ever tried any of these herbs or teas? Just curious how more milk they can give you. I am fine with my milk supply I have been lucky I dont even have to have a picture of my son I walk around the house doing stuff when I pump. I plan to stop pumping when he is 6 months...I kind of get sad but somedays I am so sick of pumping and we can be at the store and I have to come home because its time to pump.

I tried fenugreek and it didn't really seem to do much. I just got the Medela Pump in Style - anyone have any experiance with it?

Monica, do you b___stfeed when you are with your baby or do you bottlefeed with the b___st milk? I wonder because after my baby is born, my mother is going to be watching him/her as well and I want to be able to b___stfeed when my baby is with me as opposed to bottle feeding. Did your baby get nipple confusion when you started? Thanks a bunch!

Monica - I feel the same way - pumping is so frustrating sometimes, especially when your out and it comes time to pump. The worst for me is waking up at night time to pump. I don't pump as often at night time because I need my sleep! I don't have any trouble with my supply either, but then again I have a really good pump (hospital grade). I have been drinking the tea, and it has increased my supply a few ounces. I am able to pump between 6-8 oz each time I pump. Just curious, how much can others pump at a time??

I feed my baby a bottle with b___st milk I have done this since day one. But I also for the first month b___stfeed. My son never got nipple confusion but the expert say not to introduce the bottle until after 3 weeks. My baby only takes 4 oz at each feedings and everytime I pump I get 4-5 oz. I no longer pump at night since my baby sleeps all night. I got to sleep at 10 and pump at 6.

monica- just curious how often you pump during the day? Sounds like you have no problems with your supply! Good for you! :)
