My daugther is 5 weeks and beginning to get baby red dots on her butt cheeks. I put on the diaper rash cream (12% zinc) every time I change her diaper ever since I saw those bumps. It's been there for a week now. How come it isn't going away? Am I missing somethingPlease help

My daughter had a severe diaper rash at 10 days old that bled and it took forever to go away when I was treating it. I was using Balmex, then A&D but she still had what looked like raw areas on her b___t so as a last resort, I nixd the cream and started putting baby powder with cornstarch on her instead and that literally cleared it up within days. I use powder now with every diaper change and she has never had a rash or even redness since. You just have to make sure the powder gets nowhere near their face so the baby doesnt inhale it into their lungs.

It could be a yeast rash. You might want to call the Ped.

Leave your baby out of diapers for a day or so... or use cloth diapers. Newborn baby skin is really sensitive. I guarrantee this will clear it up in a day or so... Baby powder works good, too, but put it first into your hand, and then on the baby. This reduces the chances of the powder becoming airborne and inhaled by your baby. Also, make sure that you aren't letting your baby sit in wet/poopy diapers for very long. You should be checking the diaper at least every hour. Even if your daughter isn't "really wet" you should change it. I don't think that baby powder works as good as the old fashioned "naked baby" approach, though.

cornstarch. use this instead of baby powder, and will help keep baby drier. you can even buy baby powder with cornstarch already in it. (Johnson and Johnson). Also, if she is already rashy, use polysporin. Its a great healer. I use Triple Polysporin. Its just like the origional, but heals even better. Worth a try. However, if it is a yeast infection, it will look like tiny tiny red bumps clustered, almost like heat rash, but more red, and very sore to the touch. In that case, you can use Canesten yeast infection cream. Thats what my doctor prescribed for my daughters yeast infection. There are a couple of types of Canesten cream. one more so for yeast infections, and the other for Jock itch or athletes foot. They both work the same, and have the same ingredients.

I was told that diaper rash cream only prevents rash. And that you need a prescription for the rash itself and that it might me a yeast infection. My baby got a little rash and the doctor said it was a yeast like rash and gave me a cream to apply twice a day. Rash was gone almost immediatly. See your Dr.

Hello. I've had no problems using cornflour. We use each opportunity we can to get some good air time in outside. Just a bit of sunlit helps too.

All of these people have some really great advice to give you. Newborn skin is tricky because it is so new and sensitive. If the rash doesn't go away w/in a couple of days after trying any or all of these suggestions, go see your pediatrician. But, I have one more thing to add... What kind of wipes are you using? If it is one w/ fragrance, try one w/o fragrance, or try a good old fashioned warm wet washcloth w/ no soap. Also, Phisoderm makes a pretty good cleanser for infants. My hospital gave it to me when I had my daughter.
