OMG my step daughter had lice, so she did not come over last friday, but they cut her hair and did whatever you had to do to remove it and so she came over on Saturday, and ever since then I've been itching, I thought it was because all the talk of itchiness and so that got me itchy. Anyways the itching has not stopped, I had asked my husband to check my hair earlier this week but he saw nothing, and then TODAY I was scratching my head and felt something on my hair and pulled it out it was a FREAKING buggg, now im all grosed out, I dont know what to do!! My husband went to buy something for it, I mean to mothers who have kids that have gotten lice, what do you reccomend?

The lice are getting immune to the lotions you get to kill them, so doing that alone will not work. Put conditioner in your hair, comb it with an ordanary comb to get any tangles out, then while the conditioner is still in go through with a fine tooth comb. The conditioner will make your hair too slippy for the lice to grip onto properly. Do this everytime you wash your hair to make sure they are kept away. If you have children hwo have hair do it with htem too. And your husband. My son kept coming home with lice and I got sick to death of buying stuff that wasnt working. He hasn't got any now thank god but it was upsetting when he did.

I know how horrible it is my sister brought home lice from school. I have very thick curly hair so unfortunatly I couldnt get those little lice combs through my hair. I used I think the brand is Nix. I had to use 2 treatments but it got rid of them . I also brought every Item of clothing, sheet, blanket everything to the laundromat and sprayed down my house with the lice spray. That got rid of them Good luck!!

You poor thing! I'm itching in sympathy...I got lice when I was a teenager...the brats I was babysitting had it and I helped their mom comb it out, but then I got it. If your kids are in school and they get it, you have to get all the eggs out of their hair before they can go back to school. For an adult though, you could probably just use the shampoo several times over a couple of weeks, to kill all the lice as they hatch.

I know just how much it sucks! You can go to your doctor and he may check your head. I have done that soooo many times because of my little sister. The doctor should give you the good stuff to get it out. I have had lice so many times, ICK ICK. Actually, I may have it YET AGAIN because my sisters best friend has it and she always sleeps over at my parents. Why they let her KNOWING she has it is beyond me. Anyway, try going to the doctor to get the better stuff. It actually works. Good luck and sooo sorry you have it!

My niece is a second grade teacher and got lice last year- her school nurse told her to use the treatments from the store and the fine tooth comb, and to prevent it from coming back to always put a little gel or mouse in her hair b/c the lice can't hang onto hair with product in it. She hasn't had it since so I guess it works... Hope you're cured soon! *hugs*

As long as their are no live lice in your hair it is impossible for anyone to catch them off you. Eggs hatch after 5-7 days of been laid, which is why you have to do a repeated treatment after 7 days. I still believe that the lice are getting immune to the treatments now, so don't always die. If you keep doing that combing HELP it won't just get rid of the ones you have now, it will also keep them away. Make sure your hair is wet and has conditioner in it.

Blow drying your hair also helps to kill them. After you use the treatment it is best to b__w dry your hair. Also i have read that lice only live 24 hours if there is no host but i would still wash everything in hot water cause heat kills the little buggers.

Thanks everyone, I did a treatment and then did the conditioner thing while i used the lice comb to take some out. I found some live ones, and some eggs I guess, im not itching anymore, but have an itch here and there, I will keep combing my hair this week with the lice comb. AHHHHHHhh i swear after seeing those little things i have goosebumps! Anyways I have never had lice so I wasnt sure what to do about it. Im going to tell my step daughters mom about it because she came over this weekend and we used the same brush so I hope she doesnt get it again. I have a one year old who doesnt really have hair so it would be pretty easy to see if she has any or not.

I am a cosmetologist and have always been told that the stuff you can buy (Nix, and any other things at the drug store) will fix the problem. If you have small children (under 4 years of age) you can not use the shampoo on them. You will have to cut the hair very short to get it out. If you can not get it out, go to the doctor, they will prescribe some shampoo that will take care of it really quick (1 or 2 shampoos) They sell the fine tooth combs, but they are really hard to use on yourself, and usually do not work (by the time you get through all of your hair, the bugs have gotten back in) Make sure and check your kids, and make sure and let the teacher know (my mother is a teacher and she sees it all the time, it has nothing to do with what type of house you have, or how much money you have, or anything, bugs like EVERYONE! well they actually like clean hair the most!) Once you get rid of it, hairspray will help keep them out, b__wdrying will help keep them out, and you can always color your hair and that usually kills them. Good luck!

I've seen combs advertised, that give little electric shocks. Has anyone tried these?

My sister had lice when we were kids. My mom washed all of our hair with vinegar daily. It worked.

Oh God, how awful! I got them from a daycare center about 8 yrs ago and was traumatized!!! LOL! I have long, thick hair and was living with my cousin at the time. Her 2 yr old got them from me because she always climbed in bed with me. I bought all the Rid and Nix stuff I could find. Washed and sprayed the house and bedding, used the shampoos, bagged and boiled hair things. My cousin sat night after night and pulled them from my hair with one of the comb things til it went away. Took a few weeks to be completely free. Good luck!

My daughter got lice in 3rd grade. She had long hair down to her waist. The NIX didn't work. What did work was Mayonaise. I was told to try it by our nurse pract_tioner. I just put about a cup of mayonaise in her hair rubbed it in really well and wrapped it up in a bathing cap. She slept with it that way and I washed it out of her hair in the morning. It is supposed to suffocate the lice and kill the eggs as well. It did. I repeated the treatment 4 days later just to be sure. I kept her home for a week from school so that she didn't get reinfected. Now I really know the meaning of the term "nit picking"! Those thing are tiny and very hard to get out of long hair.
