How much formula should a 6 wk old be eating? He eats 5 oz. every 3 hours. Is this normal? He is still up all night as well. Thanks.

I have a 5 week old that just started eating 6 oz every 3 hours. I thickened it with cereal and now he goes a little over 4.

Isn't 5 wks. a little too young for cereal? I did it with my first at around 3 months but he wasn't as hungry.

I did it with my other two earlier. The Dr. told me when he was 3 weeks i could add a little but I waited. He said when they are eating 32 0z a day or more to go ahead. Some babies are just big eaters.

The more u give them the more they want tracey. They are big eaters because you are giving it to them, that is too young and also dangerous.

I have done this with all 3 of my children and are fine. The Dr. said so also. I can't just let him scream from hunger. He is keeping it all down so it can't be to much. My first son ate more than he is. They were never overweight or had any problems. I guess it just depends on mom and baby.
