Need Help With Teething

My son is just over 3 months, he has been sleeping through the night for about a month. He will wake up once in awhile for a minute, then I rub his head and start his music and he goes back to sleep. Last night, he woke up at 2a and was fussy until about 3a. I never picked him up, just rubbed his head. How will I know if he is teething? When will I know to give him baby tylenol? I heard that they may start teething two months before a tooth shows up, does that mean they are in pain until the tooth gets in? Does that mean he won't sleep through the night until the tooth gets in? How long do you give him medicine? Thanks.

My 7.5 month old son has been teething since 3 months old. Still no tooth...I know its been rough. Right now he is going through one of the worse times hes had so far. He won't sleep, will hardly eat, and crys all day. All you can do is give infant tylenol or motrin, baby oragel, or there are some all natural teething tablets at wal-mart which help also. His teething pain comes and goes. Some days I never have to give him medicine and he sleeps through the night. And others ;like now; where I give him tylenol every 6 hours and I don't get any sleep or quiet. See your doctor for the reccommended dose of tylenol, and if there is any thing else you can do. Usually its .8 ml of infants or 2.5 ml of childrens tylenol. For motrin its 1.25 ml of infants. Good luck! Oh and if you find out any special tricks, let me know!

I kind of think my son is teething. He is always crabby. He was such a good baby. Very rarely cried. Now it seems that he's not happy.

Do you feed him in the middle of the night? Maybe he is hungry. He might be hitting a growth spurt and getting hungry. Try that. Otherwise he might be teething. Its usually doesnt start til around 5 months or so. My daughter was 8 months old when she got her first tooth. Now its one after another. Ugh!

One of the first things you'll notice is excessive drooling. You might also find that he has a low grade fever, and is irritable throughout the day. Usually these symptoms occur close to the time that the teeth break through, usually no more than 2 weeks prior. I kind of agree with Michele, he may be going through a growth spurt and crying because he's hungry. Next time he wakes up, feed him and see if that does the trick. If he gets in the habit of waking up every night, and you don't suspect teething or hunger, just let him cry it out. He may have just got into a habit of waking up, and needs to learn how to fall asleep on his own. :o)
