Please Somebody I Need Some Support And Help

My daughter is 2 months old and this morning her temp was 101.8 and her nose was severly congested and a cough here and there and her ears spelt very strong and stunk. She acted fine all day no crying no nothing she ate fine and everything. We took her to her doctor and before he even looked at her he said he wanted to do a spinal tap right there and admit her to the hospital and take blood and x-rays. He said he wanted to check her for meningitis and an infection in her blood stream and for phnemonia(sp?) and we were shocked by all this bc she has been acting fine and the fever shes only had once and it went away and has not returned and it did not last long when she had it. We want a 2nd opinion sense he walked in and said all that without even really looking at her and not to mention that her sister had strept throat last week and has been coughing alot and he didnt even listen to us when we asked if that could be why, he had no answer for us and he refused to treat her symptoms he just wanted the spinal tap and for her to be admitted and we left and are trying to find a second opinion before we make that decision. Has anyone's baby had meningitis? I need some advice from someone who might know something. We will be taking her somewhere else there is a pediatric ER a little over an hour away and we want to take her there but we're afraid that they will just say to go back to her doctor and not help. I am not even going to tell the doctor at the ER about the other doctor til he tells me what he thinks then I will tell him. I have been crying endlessly and my eyes are swollen please someone who might now anything help me.

oh ya.. if you take her to the ER i doubt they will turn you away. You would have to take her to a hospital to have a spinal tap anyway, and they have xrays there too. Her treatment would be much quicker there (if she needs it)

Thanks N, I will take her to the Pediatric ER near us and I have done some research and thats what we will do. He rubbed on her belly and looked at her bottom and he looked in her mouth and thats it.I have done some research on the internet about meningitis and she has none of the symptoms and I am so worried because he said " thats a window that needs to be checked" and scared us so bad and said fever just one time was enough and I have never been so scared and so sick in my life. I feel so uneasy about all this thats my baby and I dont want a spinal tap unless its absolutley necessary he said it feels like getting and epidural and those hurt and leave your back sore for days. If the doctor at the ER says the same thing I will do it but not before then.She just does not look sick or sound sick. I think shes got a cold or its something viral but he refused to treat her.I am praying to GOD for help I am begging that she does not have this. Please pray for her.

I can't believe your dr. did that to you. Let us know how you make out at the ER. I'm sorry you even have to worry about this with a temp that low :(

Thank you for your support it helps to here a kind word during this. I have all these crazy thoughts I think what if she does have this and something happens and its my fault. I am not giving up I will find someone to help her soon.

nelly, i wouldn't be surprised if it's just an ear infection.. he really should have looked in her ears. And throat for that matter, you did say you mentioned to him that she's come in contact with strep throat, that's always worth taking a look just to be safe.

Yeah and he just busted through the door and said it could be an infection in the bloodstream blah blah blah. and he would not hear us out and by looking at her she does not look sick she just makes noise breathing bc her nose is so stuffy. I could not believe this. I know shes so young and that temp was high for her but he could have been more considerate and listen and explain. He should have checked her ears looke at her throat before he come in there saying all that stuff. I just go off the phone with the pediatric ER and I told them and they will see her. I will never use him again.

We took her to the pediatric er and they said what she had was viral and to give her tylenol for her fever and they checked her to see if she had a kidney infection and she doesn't and he said she has no signs of meningitis. I am still so scared though bc of the fever shes having and her doctor scared me to death so I am still terrified. I am supposed to do a follow up appointment tomorrow but I will not be taking her to him. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.
