Ladies, I need an your opinion. I just had my baby shower (7months preg.) and one of the gifts I got was a thermometer pacifier. I didn't know they existed! Anyways, do any of you know how they compare to other types? I

They take forever, sometimes more than ten minutes. For infants, rectal temperature is the most accurate (and what your pediatrician will probably want to know). Once your baby is a little older, you can switch to the ear thermometer. When buying a rectal thermometer, don't get the Safety 1st flexible tipped one that Walmart has...it doesn't beep and the little blinking F is so small you have to put your nose to the display to read it...which is icky when you're actually using it. Also, baby books say to use vaseline with the rectal thermometer, but ky jelly works just as well and is easy to clean up.

I've always used the ear thermometer, I've tried the paci one and like Jbear said, it just takes way too long!

I heard that the Temporal Thermometer is the most accurate. You swipe the forehead and get an accurate reading within seconds.

My pediatrician says to take the temperature under the arm-in the armpit. He says that the pacifier one doesn't work too well!

We have the paci thermometer...it gives an accurate reading, but takes 10 minutes; the theory is that it's less "traumatizing" for the baby, and you can take temp. while sleeping. In reality, in my experience, it's too heavy for my daughter to suck on for 10 minutes while she's sleeping, and if she's awake and I want to take her temp, chances are she's screaming and not inclined to suck on anything. Beyond that...my pediatrician said that under one year, temp should be taken rectally. After one year, it can be orally; it also can be taken in the armpit, but that's the least accurate place to take the temp, because it can vary up to 3 degrees high or low. HTH
