My baby has gas really bad but seems to have a hard time sometimes getting it out. I can lay him down and he sits there and strains to pass it. I have been putting Karol in his bottles which have helped with his bowl movements (he use to have a hard time with them and still sometimes does) and it has seemed to help little with the gas. Should I let him sit there and struggle to get the gas out or is there something I can do to help it go a little easier?

Yes, if you're in the states, go to the drugstore and get a bottle of Mylicon drops or the generic equivalent (simethicone). It's OTC ....follow the label instructions as for the dosage. Even though simethicone does not get absorbed by the body and is considered safe, check with your pediatrician before using.

Also if you are giving him formula get the Enfamil Gentlease,it is especially formulated for babies with gas and fussiness. Also you may want to fold his knees against his abdomen and hold it for 10 sec,let go and repeat a couple times, then move his legs like in a bicycle motion. After that i usually lay him against my shoulder/chest on his tummy like when you burp and usually he falls a sleep that way.It puts some pressure on his tummy and for him it feels good and helps with rel;easing gas.Oh and the mylicon drops work great.Try all of this combined,it really has helped my baby, today he is 7 weeks old.

Gas drops and we do "rocking horse"-sit baby on your tummy and rock him forward to a slumping post_tion and back into almost lying down. My husband also has lots of tricks that really work, but I am positive they are going to cause our kids long-term spinal damage-lol! One of them is "bouncy baby", basically boucing baby like a jump, with a cute song... Really anything that pulls the knees up, them straightens the body should help. And gas drops rock! If you're using b___stmilk, monitor your intake to see if certain foods are causing problems. With this baby, tomatoes are the culprit, with the first, it was turkey. Go figure.
