A responsible mother pushes for further testing, even when the doctors think they have done enough. How can one not want to rule out as many horrible possibilities as one can? Especially when it is your child who is suffering. What if this was a sign of rectal cancer and it went ignored b/c someone said it was normal to be constipated all of the time? Good for you for taking action on behalf of your angel!! Often we need to push doctors or nothing would get done.

i hope all goes well for you and your little one. i have a terminally ill daughter (she doesnt ahve a brain, only brain stem)who suffers from severe constipation as well( and also diabetes and hormone problems). she got a script for lactulouse to help soften it.. it helps her out and she is no longer tearing when she goes. but htis is something they think will be a issue all her life. i knwo this is scary for i have gone through over 30 ct scans and mri and xrays over the past year with her. but you ahve to be strong- they can feel your strength and power off out it. jus as keekee said, god never gives us anything we cant handle. and i remember wheni was preg and foudn out about her illness- i about lost it, we all do in fear of what our little ones will have to go through but god has plans for everyone. if you would like to keep in touch my email is dymondcolon@aol.com i wish you the best of luck.

Ok, in Dymonds case I can understand the need for the tests but for constipation??? Healthcare costs are on the rise because of people demanding their doctors complete costly and unneeded tests. What happens when your baby gets the sniffles? Call out the National Guard?

A good parent would do what ever it takes to find out what is wrong with their child. It is not normal for a baby to be constipated. BTW, Health care costs are high b/c of hospitals over charging the patients. Not b/c of parents having tests done. You would do the same for your child

I hope all the paranoid moms out there have private insurance then and my hard earned tax dollars arent being wasted to make sure a bump on little billys arm is just a bug bite and not a sign that all his limbs are gonna fall off.

Jen, I had tests done on my son b/c he had major health problems. He lost oxygen at birth. My youngest had tests done b/c he was born at 32 weeks. Having those test done was for my son's well being. I was told my son won't live pa__s 4 years of age. I thank God for all the specialists who saved his life. If I didn't have the test done, he wouldn't be with me now. He is a blessing.

I want to first say, I do have private health insurance as well as my family. I also want to say, that I am very happy that my tax dollars are going to help moms that cant afford health insurance on top of raising children and a family. It does not bother me one bit for people to use government a__sistance. If you dont like the way that your tax dollars are being spent, then talk to the president about it. NOT US! I have a friend who is on welfare, she does not work and her husband does work, but doesnt have any education higher than highschool and where they live, this time of year is very hard to find a good paying job, so he is a mechanic and makes no more than $8 an hour. They do have government a__sistance. They noticed with her first son that he wasnt developing the way they wanted him to. (by 3 months wasnt holding his head up, didnt have any muscle tone, etc) they had all kinds of tests done (our tax dollars paying this) they finally found out that he had a liver disease and would need a transplant. By the way not all doctors take government health care. They went through the transplant and he did pa__s away about 3 months of struggling for his little life. She had another baby and her health is 100%. They were told that their children would have a 50/50 chance of having the storage disease. They thought the odds were enough in their favor and got pregnant again. (again my and your tax dollars) They had the amnio done and found out their new baby would have the disease too. Once she was born she right away went in for testing and all. She will be 5 months next month and will be going in for her transplant at 6 months. I do not blame her one bit for staying home and not working. If I knew it there was a big chance I would only spend the next couple of months with my baby I would stay home. I have paid taxes for many years and feel that if you need it or even just want it then take it. Jen, I dont know who you are or where you are, but I wonder if you have children. If you do, would you not want the best for your children if you couldnt provide it. Even if you could provide it, would you not still want it. Maybe people that get a__sistance can afford health insurance, or maybe you feel they should have waited until they could afford children and a family, well mistakes happen, and if you know you are doing the best you can and probalby will ever be able to do, then you will provide what you can for them, and take what you are given. Did you have a baby shower? It is the same thing. You got gifts. Just think of your tax dollars being gifts to help those less fortunate than yourself.

Alicia, it does help greatly to know that your cousin said the procedure didnt hurt, thanks so much and I am so happy to hear that you were able to catch your sons illness in time before anything horrible happened. Dymond, I admire your strength and thank you for sharing your story. I will defintiely say a prayer for you both. I went to Lexis page and saw her pics. She is a beautiful baby and you must be so proud of how well she is doing. She is a strong willed little girl and Im sure she has alot more surprises in store for those Drs :-) . Now Jen, let me clarify that we did not just jump to the tests, this was after several weeks of trying other remedies which did not work. I do not expect you to completely understand because you have not seen first hand the entire situation but if you expect me to put a price tag on my daughters health so you dont have to pay high premiums? you are crazy! I am thankful to live in a time with such sophisticated modern technology that allows her Dr to catch something before it becomes untreatable and of course we are going to use that technology. I wonder if you have any kids Jen because before my daughter was born, I was worried that I was too selfish to make sacrafices for a child but the minute I laid eyes on her and held her in my arns, I knew that no matter what I had to do to keep her safe and happy, I would do it and that included being an over-paranoid mom that calls the Dr everyday.... P.S. To answer your sarcastic question, if my daughter gets the sniffles and the National Guard can do something about it, then you bet your a__s I am calling them too!
