Babies First Christmas

Hi, as most people on here have had their babies this year it means this will be their first christmas. My son will be 6 weeks on 29th December and I'm completly lost for ideas on what to buy for him. With my daughter only being 18 month old I have all her old toys that is suitable for his age. There is not a lot he hasn't got from his sister. So far I have him a teddy and a rattle set. I love Fisher Price stuff but there isn't a large selection for newborn babies. The only other thing I can think of is clothes.

Consider this Christmas to be a freebie...he definately won't care what he gets. My daughter will be just under 5 months for Christmas - we're getting her a jumparoo, a high chair, and then clothes and toys, because she's starting to get more active...but I bet she'll be more into the lights on the tree than anything else.

I bought my tree yesterday and my oldest 2 had fun for almost 3 hours playing in the box that it came in! It was funny watching them. They pretended it was allsorts form a taxi to a boat. They were even surrounded by sharks. Bless them! I said on christmas they will be more interested in the boxes than the toys themselves haha.

That's so cute! We're still debating live vs. fake, so no tree yet...I don't want to have to store a fake tree, husband doesn't want to have to clean up after a live tree...eh, we'll see. :) I can't wait til next Christmas, when she's old enough to really have fun!

I am not allowed a real one. The needles are too dangerous my partner says :-( Storing the tree isnt too bad for me, i will just shove it under the stairs with the decorations. The box needs some repairs done to it now! The sides have ripped lol.

We live in a fairly small apartment - no storage room...no closets, even, but I gather that's not uncommon in Europe. My husband, in all his brilliance, thinks we can keep it in our laundry room...I think he's not realizing that I can't even shut the door to the laundry room as it is, much less adding another box!

This will be my daughters second Christmas. I am excited becasue she will open the presents herself... i think. For her first Christmas we got her a little glow worm that sings. She just loved it. Everyone else got her the clothes. I really didn't want to get her too much because she really didn't need too much and plus... the more expensive years are still to come! But I am SO excited that Santa is coming. *Laughs* Hope you have great experiences and remember... at this age, there is no such thing as too many pictures. Good Luck and have a blast!

Jamie, do you not have a loft/attick or whatever people call them these days. Under the bed? They are not that big really. Michelle, it's my daughters second christmas too :-) I also got her a glo-worm last year! She was 7 month last christmas, will be 19 month this christmas. My oldest is almost 5. He is asking for everything that comes on TV. I asked him to look through the catalogue and circle what he would like santa to bring him, and he circled everything except girls toys! It's an expensive year this year, but it's only gonna get worse! I'm glad I started shopping in June!

*laughs* I wish you all the luck Lesley! My daughter will be 16 months this Christmas. I too got a fake tree, just a little 5 footer. My daughter likes the fiber optic lights. and the cat tries to eat them too. I am thinking of getting an air freshener to make it smell like a real tree. We are due for our second child in January, a little boy, so we are told. I haven't even started my shopping. I am bad for that and I do it all at once. I wish you could make the little ones understand how EXPENSIVE it is to get everything in the little catalogs. I am sure he will be happy with every thing he will get... well.. besides the clothes. heehee.

We are very excited this x-mas! We just moved into a brand new house 1 month ago. My son will be 6 months old the day before x-mas. I agree there is not much out there for that age. I know Fisher Price has a web site and they list toys by there age so that was pretty helpfull. We are going to have a real tree, there's nothing like the smell of pine through your house. Cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lesley, our apartment is actually the bas____nt of someone's house...so nope, no extra storage at all. A tree might fit under the crib, but we have drawers under our bed.

I am looking at the Leap Frog Baby. It seems very fun & educational. It is for babies 6-18 months, I think. I saw them at Sam's Club for about $40.

Lesley - November 18

We get leap frog in UK too. They good for helping with reading. Not sure about anything else, I've only ever bought the reading books.

Ashley - November 18

just get him clothes and teething rings and small stuff like that, rattlers are always good!! if you dont have a vibrating chair they are wicked as well

Lesley - November 18

I bought a vibrating chair and don't like it. The vibrating bit is never on.

We bought Nadya a touchy feely Lion from the Early Learning Center. She's more interested in people than toys at the moment, and she will be showered with gifts from other people anyway. My brother bought his baby a wooden spoon for his first Christmas, because that's what he liked the most. Lol! The following Christmas, he was really into brooms, so they bought him a set of them. He had a mommy, daddy and baby broom, and he was very protective of them, and wouldn't let anyone else play with them. Hehe! Kids are so funny! :)
