CPR Certified

After the discussion about CPR I was just wondering if any of you parents out there was certified. I see that some of you guys have talked about SIDS and the monitor that helps to determine if they have stopped breathing. However, if you get to your child what are you going to do when you realize that they have stopped breathing. I think every parent should get CPR and rescue breathing training. That is my Public Service Annoucment for the day.

I've been CPR certified for about 10 years now. I keep my certification up to date as well. I'm even enrolling my husband in a first aid and CPR cla__s so he'll be prepared as well.

That's cool. My dh is going to join one as well.

I got certified after my grandmother died at the house. The docs said CPR wouldn't have worked anyway, but I hated feeling useless and not knowing what to do.

Yeah it is such a useless feeling. When I was a teenager my friends father went into cardiac arrest. I wanted to help so bad. The paramedics got there in time but i still could not shake the feeling of not being able to help.

I am CPR certified, but hubby, parents and in-laws are not. I was thinking that I'd like all of them to get certified since they will all be watching Ben at some point and CPR can actually resuciate infants and children.

They wouldn't let me take my son home from the hospital until I learned CPR for infants and children. I think they should do that for every hospital.

I think so to. Maybe it should be some sort of prerequisite for parenting or something.

Hey I was reading your posts and was wondering where someone would get this training and what it costs. I dont know cpr but i have read about how to perform it. your supposed to put your mouth over the baby's mouth and nose and breathe in 3 small quick breaths. If there heart isnt beating you use both index and middle fingers for chest compressions.Perhaps that is outdated but in a situation if that were to happen thats probably what i would do. besides freaking out. I hadnt really thought of cpr though until you had brought it up TC. Its definitely something Id like to look into. If such a situation were to arise I'd like to be more educated and know what to do. Not guess if its right and pray that it works.

The American Heart a__sociation (www.american.org) & the red cross (www.redcross.org) are two of the places that I know of that gives CPR training. When you go to these websites you can poke around and find a chapter nearest you and find out info about their CPR cla__ses. Good luck in your training. It's really cool.

I have my Standard and Emergency CPR. I've had it for over 10 years, and update it every 3 -4 years.

I am CPR certified-have been for years. I usually lifeguard during the summers and teach swim lessons-so I HAVE to be up to date, but obviously last summer I didn't! I think it is so important to know and anybody who babysits my little Kailey has to be certified. Well, plus i am a teacher-well used to be and they are required to be as well.

I am cpr and First aid certified thru the Red Cross. I used to volunteer at a crisis nursery and it was required. I was glad to have it when I became pregnant as well.

I will soon be CPR certified. My son choked on a cookie last week. Luckily my husband was home because he is a firefighter/EMT and was able to take care of the situation. Nathan is fine, but it really scared me. I just want to know what to do incase my husband is not around.

I'm starting to seriously consider it as well, especially after my son gave my 5 month old a piece of bell pepper yesterday. He choked a bit, and for a moment I felt totally freaked out and useless. It wasn't fun. Luckily he coughed it up himself. But I keep thinking maybe next time I won't be so lucky :(.
