In Virginia its only GoodStart. Atleast in Northern-VA and Washington DC. Back then they use to cover Similac.

In Texas it's Enfamil with iron, or it was three years ago. Hopefully I'll be able to b___stfeed this time and won't have to find out what WIC provides. Oh, to the poster who suggested getting rid of the internet to pay for formula, either you're getting overcharged for internet, or you aren't familiar with the price of formula. Formula costs much more than internet. Wouldn't you rather have your tax dollars (which our government is going to take anyhow) go to feed babies than to space programs, or wars that we have no business being in?

I am on WIC and we get 9 cans of Enfamil lipil with Iron a month. It's a huge help! And to the other Jen: We are not here to judge people so shut up. My husband is going to college so it's not like we are going to be on it forever. Everyone has a different situation for a different reason

Does WIC only go until the baby stops drinking formula. My daughter is 6mo. and so she will only drink formula til about age 1. I dont know if I qualify for it.

Soleil, WIC covers you for six months postpartum (a year if b___stfeeding). WIC provides formula, infant cereal and juice during your baby's first year. From age 1 until age 5 WIC provides milk, eggs, cheese, cereal, juice, peanut b___ter and possibly produce from the farmer's market. WIC will also provide free immunizations for your child until age 5.

I wish I qualified for Wic. I had to pay $15.00 for a small can of premature baby formula. Thank God I was also b___st-feeding. If you can get Wic, go for it. We pay taxes!!! Why not ask for help........Jen, still not getting enough attention...Poor Baby!!!!.........Good luck everyone!!!

I am on wic, it gives you 9 one pond cans a month. I started out with the enfamil lipil with iron but my daughter has colic so we had to switch her milk to similac alimentum which is the most expensive formula out there, all I had to do was get a prescription from her pediatrician and they cover it thank goodness because 9 cans of that type cost about $180 So whatever formula your child is on they will give to you. Wic is a lot of help and if you are eligible I would definitely get it.

Call up your local health department. They're generally the ones who deal with WIC. Also, the amount of income allowed is alot higher than if you're applying for food stamps or medical help, so give them a call. The cla__ses are a pain in the b___t, but it's worth it.

We get wic. Our income is 32,000 for a family of 5. My 3 yr. old gets it and I recently had a baby and am b___stfeeding so I get it. We are not poor but it is nice to have a little extra help. I looked online and it looks like a family of 5 can make almost 40,000 and still qualify. It comes from our health department and I can take baby in to get immunizations free, too.

Is everyone here so bored they have to hang around picking fights and calling names? This is the infant care forum, not the preschool potty-mouth contest. People should have the right to ask a question, and anyone who knows the answer should feel free to answer it without being called names. Grow up, everyone...you're parents yourselves, now...start acting like it!

Thank you to the last post. I have never seen a message board like this one before. I thought people are supposed to come here for advice not getting cursed out for asking a question. To Sarah, I have 4 kids & we make 48,000 a year on 1 income. My youngest child is on WIC but all of my kids were on WIC up until they turned 5. WIC wants people to use this service. When I was 1st informed about it I turned them down but they kept asking me to come & apply. We did & although our income is pretty high for most families we still got it. We pay a lot every year in taxes & this program has been a huge help. It's here to help people not become broke off of buying formula for their babies & instead the parents can use the extra money on clothes for their children instead. In our state WIC will pay for any type formula your child is on BUT it will not give you enough for the entire month so we always have to buy formula ourselves every month. WIC is NOT welfare. Obviously the current posters do not know the difference from WIC & Welfare. I feel sorry for those people that can't just give advice instead of coming on here showing their tails. They most be such "great parents" LMAO! I dare to wonder what they are teaching their children. If you can't answer the question then just skip to the next post. You all that have such childish things to say should try it.

I am not going to waste my time responding to negative comments.....BTW, I don't not qualify for WIC. My husband and I pay taxes like everyone else. We prefer our taxes to be used for programs like this. Including Welfare, medicare, food stamps, & homeless shelters. I don't judge someone who use these programs. I wish more people use these programs. I would see less homeless people........Most people are one or two paychecks away from being homeless. You could get laid off, fired, or company up and leave without notice. It happen to several people I know. It could happen to you. One minute you have a beautiful home and SUV. Sticking your nose up to "poor" people. The next minute you lose everything. These same people who are making negative comments about getting government help. May need government a__sistance one day .If you qualify, shallow your pride and take it. The money you normally use for formula put it in a bank account. You never know what can happen in the future. Take care

I did not go to WIC they came to me at my PRIVATE doctors office, several times before I agreed to even apply. Some people just don't have a clue. 48,000 is for a family of 6. If WIC thought it was enough we would not qualify. Think about it! Sounds to me like you are just jealous you don't recieve it. The qualifications for WIC varies in every state. It just so happens my state has better qualifications. Get over it already! And by the way, WIC does NOT give you checks, they give vouchers. We do NOT qualify for food stamps, welfare or whatever other type of a__sitance you can get through social services. ONLY WIC! The more people WIC provides for me the more money WIC recieves. So they like to get as many people as possible to apply. In my state when a baby is born they litterally come to your hospital room to get you to apply.

What state do you live in? Wow, WIC come to you.

You can look up wic guidelines on the internet. I THINK all the states were the same guidelines except for alaska and hawaii. It is not welfare. We also do not receive any type of welfare, food stamps, etc. We work and pay taxes just like everyone else. They are pretty generous with the guidelines. It think it is 185% of poverty level.
