When I was pregnant, my dad's wife was ALWAYS saying how she wished I would have a girl- even after I found out I was having a boy! Now, he's four months and she has the nerve to give him a hat and mittens that were clearly meant for a girl. They are lilac purple with a pink heart on the front! Now, I wouldn't have a problem with him wanting to wear clothes that were intended for a girl if he was old enough to pick them out himself, but this is just a major slap in the face b/c she was constantly commenting on how I should have had a girl so she "could dress her up in pretty things". It's just so freakin' annoying! I feel like telling her that if she doesn't like my BOY then she can go and find herself a girl to dress up! Sorry, ladies, I just really needed to vent! This is NOT my only issue with this very hateful and two faced woman!

Oh my! That is terrible. Obviously she is trying to live vicariously through you. That is really tacky of her to make those kind of comments about your beautiful boy! I would tell her to get away from your kid, go find one of her own, just like you said. What a weirdo!

I have family like that. They're kind of crazy. My aunt was always so worried she would not get to see my baby for some unknown reason, she lives 2 minutes away. She came over to see him once since he was born. Once! So on Thanksgiving, he was sleeping when she got to my cousin's house and all I heard was how she wanted to spend some time with Lucas. When he woke up, someone who was not family got him and I let this woman feed him a bottle. My son really liked this woman, she is the girlfriend of my cousin's bf"s dad, anyway. I took the baby from her so my aunt could see him, and she got up and started taking dishes into the kitchen as soon as I brought him to her. A little while later, she held him for about 2 seconds and gave him back. All I heard is how desperately she wanted to spend time with him that day! I was so irritated. I let the woman that he actually liked that was a stranger hold him again. She paid more attention to him. There, now I feel better too! I guess we just have to grin and bear it sometimes!

My mom kept buying me boy clothes for my first daughter...She would get them at garage sales, bring them and say, "Well, navy and gray and forest green really aren't boy colors..." She didn't want a grandson, she was happy with a granddaughter, she was just cheap and when she saw baby clothes for a quarter she couldn't resist. It made me furious! And I always thanked her for them, washed them and gave them away. My father-in-law was another story. When he saw the picture of girlparts on the ultrasound (and my eldest has never been modest) he said maybe the angle was off, because it had to be a boy. Then, the day after I had the baby, he came to see me and wanted to know when I would be having a boy. After that, he brought it up at least once a month until I told him I would have one more baby and, boy or girl, that would be it. So then he told my husband there was no shame in divorce, and if I wouldn't give him sons my husband could always find a wife who would. He gave my daughter a giant inflatable beer can for her first birthday, and a coke clock for Christmas, too. I quit nagging my husband to call his dad, and he quit calling...the last time they spoke was when my husband called to tell him we'd had our second daughter and that I'd had my tubes tied. Some people are so strange...my FIL is single, if he wants a boy baby he can find some nice, desperate young woman and make his own...

An inflatable beer can for a child's first birthday?! Boy or girl, that's not appropriate! Sheesh, why can't people just love the children in their family whether they are boys or girls? Jbear, maybe you should tell your FIL that the days of the woman giving a male heir to the throne are way over! :)

Want to fix this? For X-mas, give her a pack of men's underwear and say I figured you'd LOVE them!

I know, it's not like he has a fortune to inherit anyhow, and there are probably two thousand people in this city alone with our last name...one of my girls can just marry someone with the same last name, ha ha, and carry it on that way...the beer can was Pabst Blue Ribbon and it was three and a half feet tall! I'm lucky I didn't have a boy, my FIL would probably have given him a (real) gun for his first birthday.

Jbear, my son got a real bb gun when he was three days old from my FIL :) It's ok though, we can teach him to use it safely when he is old enough!

My mom actually refused to talk to my hubby when we found out we were having our second boy! She's okay now, and loves both her grandkids, but we haven't told her we don't plan on more!

Wow. At least when my MIL gets feminine stuff for Ben, it is out of cheapness, like JBear's mom. In fact, I saw a baby picture of my hubby and he was in a distinctly girly outfit in one photo. My hubby said it was probably a hand-me-down from his female cousin. I like Juicy's suggestion of buying the Mrs. Cheap-os of the world men's underwear for Christmas! Soo funny. JBear- does your FIL not realize that it was his son's sperm that produced two girls, not you? What is wrong with these old-timers and their outdated notions about the world? Since it was technically your husband's "fault" that you guys had girls, would he tell you to leave his son? I don't think so. How crazy.

The really sad part is this wasn't done out of cheapness! These were brand new with the tags on them! She just did it out of spite! Grrrrr!!!

Wow! How do you manage not to slap her! I agree with juicy, buy her mens underwear, or some aftershave. Lol!

FF...if they have the tags on, take them back and get some with boy's colors. If she asks where the purple ones went, tell her you put them away to save until you have a girl, or tell her, if you want her to know how you feel, that you went back to the store and they must have gotten more boys' colors in, because you know she wouldn't have gotten purple if they'd had anything for boys. (And tell yourself you're just like a fairy-tale princess, because you have a wicked stepmother ;-)
