I JUST HAD A HORIBLE EXPERIENCE. MY SON WAS IN HIS CAR SEAT SLEEPING LIKE HE HAS DONE A HUNRED TIMES BEFORE. I WAS IN MY OFFICE WHERE I CAN HEAR HIM. THE PHONE RANG AND I TALKED TO MY HUSBAND FOR A FEW MINUTES. I GOT BACK ON MY COMPUTER AND WAS READING THESE POST AND CAME ACROSS THE ONE ABOUT THE SIDS MONITOR. I THOUGHT I SHOULD GO CHECK ON MY SON. I WALKED IN AND HE HAD WOKE UP, ROLLED OVER AND HAD HIS HEAD, FACE DOWN, WHERE THE BEND OF THE CAR SEAT IS (WHERE HIS LITTLE BUTT SHOULD BE). MY HEART STOPPED. I PICKED HIM UP AND HE AND BEEN CRING BUT I WOULD HAVE NEVER HEARD HIM IF I HADN'T WALKED IN. I WILL NEVER LET HIM SLEEP IN HIS SEAT AGAIN. HE IS NOW SITTING HERE NEXT TO ME HAPPY AS CAN BE. I THANK GOD HE IS OKAY.

had he been strapped down even while asleep in his carseat this would have been prevented. I think there was even a thread here about it.

nameless... I dont think Kathryn is into hearing what could have prevented this. I'm sure she already knows, and regrets leaving him in it. Even strapped in babies, can get hurt in a car seat. But, it is a great story for others to learn from!

Nathan is five months old. No, I didn't have him strapped in. Nameless, I feel terrible for what I did, or in this case, what I didn't do. I'm glad some people are perfect parents. I just wanted to add this to the list of a million accidents that can be prevented so this doesn't happen to someone else.

Thank god he is OK.
Just a quick question....I am in Australia, and whenever I see babies sleeping in car seats, I get puzzled, as our car seats her in oz, even the ones that go from birth to 4 yr old, are not suitable to leave a baby sleeping in, inside the house, and defently not over night.
Do you guys mean a CAPSULE?...Which her in australia, is used from birth to 6 months, and can be lifted in and out of the car without having to unstrap baby? And can be used in a stroller, so as not to have to wake baby up to put him or her into the car. The seat belt in a capsule is like a wide sash, which goes across there tummies, and does up with velcro.
Thanks for any input :)

Kathryn, dont be too hard on yourself. Accidents happen. Just be thankful your little guy is alright. I'll never forget the time when my daughter was sitting in her car seat, not buckled in (probably around 5 months also), and she turned herself around, and flipped the carseat backwards. I think I was going to the bathroom, or something.. and I came into the living room, and she had wiggled herself underneath the coffee table! I was horrified! She was fine, smiling and baby talking... but I was worse for wear! Believe me, things don't get any less terrifying as they get older! Chin up!

I was just asking, not to judge you at all... One time I left the room for a minute and came back to see my daughter trying to hug my son on the floor as he was getting tummy time. His face was smashed into the blankie/rug and he couldn't breathe. I'd hate to see what happened if I hadn't come back sooner.... If I don't strap my son into the bouncer, he slides down. I a__sume that's what happened to your little one.... You are not a bad parent :-)

THANK GOD he is ok. I do not beleive anyone out there is perfect. I have fell alseep with my baby in my arms , ending up being hanging from me. BF woke up and then woke me and I put him down. Needless to say I beat myself up and thanked God he did not fall. I did not fall alseep on purpose I was really tired from having a restless day and evening with him. I do not fall alseep any more. Before I tend to him I go to the bathroom wash me face and brush my teeth or go to the kitchen and get water any thing to full wake myself.

I am glad your little one is alright... how frightening for you! I had something similiar happen to me. I was stressed out one day because of my son's colic and I laid him down on my bed to go to the bathroom and "take a breather" from walking around in circles with him. In the few moments I was out of the room, he rolled over (for the first time!) and slobbered all over the blanket. When I walked in to get him, the blanket had stuck to his face from the slobber and he couldn't breath. I remember calling my Mom in hysterics after I a__sured myself that he was ok. I always put him in his crib when I needed a small break after that. It's a scary way to learn a lesson about raising baby's!

Kathryn, don't be so hard on yourself... this is how we learn. My mom once told me that you'll make lots of mistakes with your children, especially your first and try not to beat yourself up over it too much, just take it as a learning experience.
