I know this is totally off the subject of babies, but I was hoping someone would know about any assistance programs out there to help people find housing. I have 3 children (a 15 month old and 3 month old twins) and am in need of help. My husband just got out of the military and we are staying with his parents until we get back on our feet. The problem is- his mother is absolutley crazy and I am afraid she may hurt my children. She threw a 2 year old style temper tantrum the other day and almost hit my poor little baby in the head with her shoe. I wont go in to the crazy details, but she is just not right, and I need to get out for my sanity and the sake of my kids. If anyone knows anything I would greatly appreciate the help.

I know a single mom with two kids on HUDD but she said it takes a really long time to actually get help. But it wouldn't hurt to try. Go by your local family services office, maybe they can help. Oh, and I would be trying to stay with someone else in the meantime. Good luck.

Hey lilmama, the military actually has a program designed to help the transition from military to civilian - I know OCONUS it's called ACAP, I don't know about CONUS. I'd say, contact the Transition Center at your nearest military installation.

I took a guess that your nearest military installation is Ft. Leonard Wood - the website is www.wood.army.mil; but I tried looking through it, and couldn't find the phone number to the Transition Center...but there are phone numbers to housing departments, which might be able to help you out.
