I know you should only put your baby to sleep on their back but my baby seems to suffer from gas really bad and when he is put on his stomach he stops crying. Does anyone else put their baby on their stomach?

You know my mom laid all her kids down on their tummy to sleep and there was never a problem. That was the norm back then. But since doctors now a days so NO TUMMY its hard. And they do say it for good reason but I think its over generalised. Talk to your dr and go from there.

My daughter sleeps on her stomach and she is fine. But she is also able to raise her head on her own and there lies the real risk of placing children that are to young on their tummies. Pressure feels good to infants when they have ga__s. Another possibility that I found worked really well with my daughter were Mylicon drops before and after meals!

How old is your baby? I would consult your pediatrician before doing this..there was a family in my county about two or three weeks ago that lost a baby because they layed him on his stomach in the ba__sinet and when the mother came to get him he was dead. the baby tryed to turn his head but wasnt strong enough and he suffocated... it was a terrible thing and shouldnt happen to know one. If you do lay your baby on his tummy I would stay right by his side. Im not telling you this to scare you, just trying to help you. Also have you tried a bouncy seat? My daughter has really bad gas also and we have one that vibrates and she loves to be in it she is a bouncy seat addict hehe ill put her in there when shes ga__sy and turn it on and she will fall right to sleep and sleep for 2-3 hrs at a time

My mom had five kids, me being one of them lol, and she layed every baby down on their tummies and she also never had a problem. My son layed on his stomach in the NICU since he was premature and I would go visit him and he'd always move his head back and forth to switch sides, he was born 6 weeks early. If it helps your son, I think it's alright. I would check on him every couple hours though.

well my son is 9 months old and he sleeps on his tummy and he is perfectly fine...i mean i lay him down on his back but he automatically flips over and falls asleep on his tummy....i mean if your baby sleeps on his tummy i would just remove EVERY thing from his crib so there isnt any there that could suffocate him...like a crib bumper or toys or something like that....well also how old is your baby?...hope that helped!

My son is only a week and a half and will only sleep in his ba__sinet on his stomach. I will put him in the ba__sinet for about ten minutes on his stomach while I sit next to him and then turn him over to his back. That is the only way I can get him to sleep on his back. He might stir at first, but he always falls right back to sleep. Hope this helps.

to amber, my baby is 4 weeks old. I only put him on his during the day when I am in front of him. He is able to lift his head and move it side to side...could the fact that now he can move his head side to side be a problem with laying him on his stomach?

I agree with Amber, I wouldnt lay a baby on their stomach just to be on the safe side. Try swaddling them. That helped Amaya. We thought she would only sleep on her tummy and we swaddled her and it worked like a charm! I wouldnt put them on their stomach until they are able to roll over themselves (then I guess I still wouldnt because they can do it themselves!)

I still wouldnt lay your baby on his stomach without supervising him as my daughter can move her head side to side but during her tummy time sometimes she struggles and her face will seem to get stuck face down. If your son is really tired and trys to move his head to the other side it may get stuck face down and theres a chance of suffocation.I would try the swaddling or the vibrating chair you can also buy a thing that attaches to the crib to make it vibrate. If your son has gas that bad he may need to switch formulas thats what we had to do with my daughter. Also try gas drops. At first I had a hard time with my daughter she is now two months old and Im pretty good at knowing what she wants or needs. You will get to know your baby better everyday and learn to know what will calm him down during these stages. All the luck to you and your son!

Monica , I dont mean to sound so negative about laying your son on his stomach I have just heard so many horror stories about parents who do this and If I could prevent one less from happening it would mean all the world to me! Hope you understand

I agree with Michelle, the infant gas drops work really well. My pediatrician says the baby has to sleep on her back until she's six months old, even if she can roll herself over. Maybe you should ask your pediatrician about the gas problem. If you're using formula, you might need to switch brands, or use a different kind of bottles.
