I need some new "lunch" ideas for my toddler and the ones i baysite. i usually give them left over suppers, (wich can be meat and veggi's) sandwich whole weath bread & cheeze slices, or hot dogs with "mc kain smilies" potatoes, or mashed carrots/potatoes & salmon, or soup with hole wheat bread or veggies mashed with ground beek/chikcen or chicken fingers and veggies....but i think that the kids would like some changes once in a while, as iam starting to have hard time to make them eat at lunch. but when i think of new things,...they eat more. but iam getting out of ideas...it has to be fast (cause of all the kids) and healthy as much as possible. LOL

try homemade pizza they can top it any way they want and they are helping make it so it is also an activity and they will feel like they made their lunch maybe they will eat it better that way of couse you will have to bake it and cut it but it might be worth a try you clould also ask the kids what their favorite is and make meals around their favorites

Pasta Primavera? Use pasta shells, make an alfredo using light cream/b___ter/parmesan/tad bit of lemon/salt/pepper, and add steamed veggies. Barilla makes a pasta that is fortified with Omega 3s.

Quesadillas -large flour tortillas, monterey jack and cheddar cheese, and whatever else you want to fill it with (chicken, avocado, salsa). Bake in the oven, although I fry mine in a lot of oil :) Serve with mashed avocado and/or sour cream.

You can make quesadillas in the microwave, too. If you use regular sized tortillas, each kid can have a "personal" quesadilla. (Cut the quesadilla into slices for less mess). If you want to make little pizzas really quickly, you can use halves of english muffins for the crust. Another quick one is bean and cheese tacos. They make whole wheat tortillas, too. They taste okay, but cost a little more than plain ones.

OMG now I am hungry. Tuna melts - like a grilled cheese but use tuna salad and cheese and grill in a pan. Serve with soup or carrot sticks. Use whole grain bread and unproccesed cheese, and you have a very healthy sandwhich. I think it's great that you take the time to prepare the meals:) You can save time by getting some of the stuff ready the night before. I am going to eat some hummus :)

Karine, you must be my doppelganger or something! I was running a dayhome until a couple weeks ago (on mat leave.. if you could call it that).. one thing the kids LOVED was peel a banana and wrap it in a piece of whole wheat bread with peanut b___ter on it then cut it into slices and serve with yogurt.. it takes three minutes and they loved it. They also really liked fried rice.. make the rice as usual and when it's done put it in a frying pan with mixed veggies and an egg and cook until the eggs are done.. i'd sprinkle some cheese on top just to include all the food groups.. Pasta was always a hit too. I made omlets alot too.

I know you said you do hotdogs, but my best friends mom has a daycare and she does octopus hotdogs. You cut the hot dog in half and then on the "raw" edge you cut an x and then a star and when you boil it the "legs" separate and make an octopus. You can always buy the colored katchup. You can take the small sausage links and roll them in croissants and make little "piggies in a blanket" Spaghetti is always fun and they make so many different shapes of pasta that you can make it just about any way you want and you can flavor it up by putting a different kind of cheese on it, peanut b___ter and jelly is always fun, just make the sandwich and take fun cookie cutters and make cute little shapes, ummmm I will think of the other fun things she fed them and will get back to you!

we're live in denmark now, so the food choices are different than back home. my boys get alot of rye bread with liver pate on top, chopped raw veggies, boiled eggs, cheese. lots of fish, mackerel in tomato sauce, soups. in their daycare they make rye porridge, tortillas, pasta with sauce. my boys love hot dogs too, and homemade pizza.

Why do kids love hotdogs in KD? I swear my son would eat it every day if i let him. I HATE it, but my husband makes it ONCE and my son acts like we just invented sugar, he can't get enough!
