Out And About

I put a thick all in one snow suit on him and a hat. The suit has gloves already attatched so don't bother with them. I wrap him up with a blanket too. I have honestly never heard of this in my life. It's in no books, its on no website. I am in the UK, up north too which is supposed ot be the coldest part. When I had my oldest son I asked the midwife when it would be OK to take him out, and she said whenever I feel ready, as long as he is wrapped up warm.

I live in the greater Cleveland area as well, but my son was born in August. I had him out within a week. I didn't take him to the mall ot anything, but shopping, to lunch, to my work, and for pictures. They turned out great, also! We go out every single day almost and he hasn't been sick yet. I think its good for babies and moms to go out and about. Just use your best judgement.

I also live in the greater Cleveland area but my doctor never mentioned not taking him anywhere? He just said it would be good not to have alot of people around him for the first few months. My son attends preschool and I have to get him there so I do have to take my newborn with me 3 times a week. I have also taken him to the mall a couple of times. I leave him in his infant carrier covered so that no one can touch him. He is 6 wks. today and has been fine. I think I am not as paranoid as I was with my first. We constantly wash our hands and I am constantly disinfecting my house. This is the best I can do I can't stay home forever.

I took my son out when he was two days old. I take him everywhere. He's never been sick. I love it when my in laws watch him. Sometimes it's much easier to get something done without him.

Heh - on the way home from the hospital, we went grocery shopping!!! With the brand new baby, of course. Then again, she was born in August.

The mothers antibodies doesn't even protect her from catching a cold, so they certainly wouldn't protect her newborn. Exposing your newborn to germs by taking them out is good, if they build up a resistance. On the other hand if they become sick... Christy also has to weigh the fact that it is flu season so there is some extra risk, but it all boils down to doing what you feel is best.

I like Liana also live in Miami...my baby is 6 weeks and I have lost track of all the times we have been out. When hurricane Hilma came we had to run to Orland Fl. so we were everywhere.. Malls, restaurants, outside with kids, walks, walmart. etc. and he has never been sick..l

Julie and Rachael- whereabouts do you guys live in Cleveland? We are in Hudson. I am itching to go to Heinen's today and I think I may just do it, even if just to get some milk and OJ. It is so warm out too. Or does that make the chance of getting sick worse? Or is that just an old wive's tale? Ugh. I'll let you know what I do.

Christy, I am sure baby will be fine! I think it is good to get them out a little bit. I think they run more risks of getting sick by going to their docs office where sick kids are always at than going to a store or a restaurant. I live in Parma, today is going to be nice, I say take him!

my doc. never said anything about it. i was out with my daughter shopping for days with my mom and hubby and she was only a week or two. she loves shopping now. she is 3yr lol. and with my son we didnt really do that as it was in november and it was an icy month that year.

I live in Madison which is about 40 mi. east of downtown near the Mentor area.

Christy - November 28

Julie- I know where that is. I grew up on the east side in Highland Hts and Mayfield Village. We had a track meet there in HS once. Taht is snow belt territory, no? Anyway, I took him to the store today and it was sooooo good to get out. The cashier recognized me from the last time I was there when I was still preggo. She was cool- looked at Ben but did not touch. He just slept through the whole thing, which was fine by me. I wonder if I could do lunch with a friend at this small restaurant up the street we always go to on Wednesday? Or am I pushing my luck? :)

Use the Over the Shoulder Baby Holder baby sling. When a small baby is in it they are right next to you for warmth. It is also not inviting for strangers to get close and pa__s their germs since the baby is right next to you and not in a car seat on a cart or in a stroller. You can also easily b___stfeed in the sling without exposing yourself. I took my kids out this way during their first week---no problems at all.

Christy - November 28

I have a baby Bjorn- is that the same thing?

Julie - November 29

Christy-yes it is the snowbelt I will probably go crazy this winter! I used to work in Highland Heights. I think you could do lunch how old is your little guy? I have a 3 yr. old named Ben as well.
