i think my husband and i made a mistake by giving our daugther a pacifer too soon. how do we wean our two week old daughter off the pacifer? i think she is dependent on her pacifer to make her sleep. we realized this when we tried to put her to bed without the pacifer tonight. we tried rocking her, rubbing her back, holding her next to our chests, the sling and so on. now i think we're in trouble. please help!!

I personally see nothing wrong with giving you're two week old baby a pacifer. My daughter is 4 months and she's dependent on her pacifer as well... infants need to suck because it soothes them, especially when they're tired and cranky.

I also agree that there is nothing wrong. In a couple of months when you have the SIDS worry very strong in your head you will be glad that your baby is pacifier dependent. Studies have shown that pacifiers have reduced SIDS. I think if you want to take it away when they are around 6 or 7 months then that would be ok. Or maybe just give it to her when she is sleeping. I think the paci is a GREAT WONDERFUL AWESOME thing!

I don't think at 2 weeks thats a problem they like to suck to sooth themselfs.

My personal opinion is that there is no need to wean a 2 week old off of the pacifier. My daughter had hers quite often and by the time she was 5 months old is when we kinda took it away and she gave it up. Now if your child was 2 years old i would say get rid of it

HONESTLY I DONT THINK THAT AT 2 WEEKS ITS A PROBLEM, LIKE STEPHANIE SAID I READ THAT STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT PACIFIERS REDUCE SIDS. MY DAUGHTER USE TO HAVE HER PACIFIER FROMT HE BEGINNING AND NEEDED IT TO GO TO SLEEP IN THE BEGINNING. NOW AT 7 MO SHE DOESNT USE IT ANYMORE, I MEAN ILL GIVE IT TO HER AND SHE WILL SUCK IT LIKE 2X AND THEN SPIT IT OUT. I HONESTLY DONT REMEMBER WHEN SHE LET GO OF IT, I THINK IT WAS BETWEEN 4-5 MO THAT SHE LOST INTEREST IN IT.

I agree with everyone, but I know where you are coming from...My 1 month old has a paci for bed and naps, but it is extremely frustrating because he is costantly losing it. I find myself sticking it into his mouth more than I would like too! Good Luck!
