Pardon me for postin here but I wanted to ask people who have been through it all already. I've been watching those Baby Story shows (I should probably stop watching them as they freak em out, lol.). Everytime I see the doc check to see how far along they are dialated, they always seem to howl with pain. I just wondered why that part hurt so much and what to expect?

It hurts...that part is probably worse than the contractions...at least, it was worse than the contractions I had prior to my c-section. *shudder*

I honestly dont remember them checking how far along I was dialated! Must've been 'cuz I was so freakin' numb, or tired! My first pregnancy, I thought the labour and delivery was a sinch! The second pregnancy, I had a c-section, and just the thought of it now, makes me sick to my stomach!

When they did a pelvic at my 6 week postpartem, I was terrified because of the memory of how badly it hurt...ugh...fortunately, the post-partem one didn't hurt at all. The doctor said it was because my cervix was closed again and the baby wasn't putting pressure on it anymore.

Well, if it makes you feel any better (probably won't) my contractions hurt so badly, that I didn't think the checking part hurt at all. Seriously, I can't even remember...

CONTRACTIONS,are the worst! I was in labor for 3 days...After pushing for 3 hours we had to do an emergency c-section. If you have a c-section it is very painful afterwards. I would do it again in a heartbeat though. Good luck

I think it's good that your watching the baby stories on TV. They gave me a "what to expect" feeling. I'm 19 but had my son at 18 and I personally think that when they checked me, it wasn't bad at all, it just felt like a lot of pressure pushing on my bowels. The contractions are the hard part!!! My son came shooting out so fast that I didn't have time for an epidural. If you plan on getting pain meds. do it ASAP! The doctors thought my labor would take long and held off on the epidural...BOY WERE THEY WRONG!! If your worried about what to expect, take a lamaze cla__s/labor cla__s. I didn't take one but it might help you out. Good luck with your labor, it'll hurt but it's the most beautiful feeling when it's all over and you have your precious little one to hold!

I would say having a pap smear hurts more thenbeing checked for dialation. If you have a high thrush hold for pain you will be fine,if not then try not to let the paain of childbirth bother you. The pain is so worth it in the end when you see your child for the first time.

I don't remember the doctor/midwife checking for dilation hurting all that much, to be quite honest. Maybe it was just that the ladies happen to have a contraction when they check? During my labours, that was the least of my worries!!

Having my doctor check for dialation hurt like hell. She wasnt very gentle. She also broke my water with her fingers and that killed. The one nurse who checked me as well had small fingers so she had to really push to check. I felt like smacking them both!
