Wow! Yes it's offensive and as racist as one can imagine. My favorite comeback to those people is: "Yes, usually racists cannot tell the diffence"... or "So what is it like being a racist?" ..... heh he

I AM A LIGHT SKINNED BLACK FEMALE AND MY SONS DAD IS WHITE. MY BOY IS VERY LIGHT SKINNED AND CAN PASS AS COMPLETELY WHITE SINCE HIS HAIR IS STILL VERY SHORT. I TOOK HIM TO THE PED FOR HIS CHECK UP AND THE NURSE ASKED ME WHY HIS MOTHER DIDNT BRING HIM IN. I TOLD HER I WAS HIS MOTHER AND SHE CHUCKLED LIKE SHE THOUGHT I WAS KIDDING AND WHEN SHE SAW THAT I WAS SERIOUS, SHE HAD THE NERVE TO JOKINGLY TELL ME THAT I BETTER GET IT IN WRITING OR SOMEONE WILL THINK I STOLE A BABY. NOW I KNOW SHE WAS TRYING TO BE FUNNY BUT I FELT LIKE SHE WAS GETTING A GOOD LAUGH FOR HERSELF AT MIINE AND MY SONS EXPENSE AND IT REALLY GOT TO ME. I ASKED HER TO LEAVE THE ROOM AND GET ME THE DOCTOR AND WHEN THAT MAN WALKED IN, I LET HIM HAVE IT AND TOLD HIM THAT NURSE BETTER NEVER ADDRESS ME OR MY BOY AGAIN. YOU WERE 100% IN THE RIGHT TO TELL THAT WOMAN OFF. WE AS MOTHERS PROTECT OUR CHILDREN AS MUCH AS WE CAN AND WHEN SOME IGNORANT PERSON MAKES A JOKE OR COMMENT TOWARDS THEM, THEY DESERVE ANY TONGUE LASHING OR BUTT WHIPPING THEY GET. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANYONE BE FLAT OUT RUDE LIKE THAT WOMAN WAS AND I PRAY IT NEVER HAPPENS BECAUSE THERE WOULD BE ALOT OF DRAMA TO FOLLOW. GOOD JOB JADYNS MOMMIE FOR STANDING UP TO THAT WOMAN AND NIPPING IT IN THE BUTT BEFORE SHE SAYS ANYTHING ELSE.

Thanks BBK, I am going to have to remember those just in case :-) Geez Tara, I am so sorry that you had to go through that and at your Drs office? Some people just dont stop and think!

The exact same thing happened to me at my baby's first ped appointment. The nurses kept commenting on how nice my baby's complexion was, no biggie--but the ped flat out asked get this " what nationality is your husband?" You would think she of all people could have done the math and to top it off how on earth would telling her what nationality he was help. I am standing thinking you dumb witch, but I answered her question. She said "oh" like it somehow helped. Needless to say we changed doctors. This is not the first time I have encountered a dumb doctor though, my first ob gyn looked me in the eye and told me if I gave birth in the country my husband was from that my child would not be an American although I am American.
