ok, i am due in feb. and trying to decide what stroller(s) to get. I will be a single mom, so I really have to get something that I can manage alone. The other issue is that I live in a 1 bedroom apt that is up 1 flight of stairs. I have no garage or place to store the stroller other than my apt. and my car. So, I can't hoist a heavy stroller up the stairs the same time i'm carrying the baby. Also, I walk A LOT and want a stroller that will be durable and handle shocks well. Should I have 2? a jogging stroller (i really want the BOB Revolution) and a really light weight one? Can I get away with the snap n go for the first few months and just keep him in the infant car seat? I want to avoid getting one of those big travel systems, but not sure if the snap n go will be sufficient. Also, anyone use the bugaboo? i know it's $$$ but everyone talks about how great it is.

I would suggest - forget the stroller, get a sling. I have a Maya Wrap sling and it is AWESOME. Completely manageable for 1 person, the baby loves it, it's perfect for discrete, hands-free nursing, and you don't have to worry 'bout carrying it up the stairs...you can even carry Baby AND groceries up the stairs at the same time. It has a big pouch pocket that can hold keys, wallet, cell phone, diapers, wipes, burp rag, pacifier, and just about anything else you can cram in there. The main thing, though, is you can't run with it.

i am an avid enthusiast of anything made by peg perego. i have a double stroller by them that i've had for over four years and it is in mint condition. i use it a lot and plan on using it for at least 2 more years! you should check out their website and see if you can find a model that meets your needs. they're pricy (somewhat), but with strollers as with many other things in life, you really get what you pay for. you want nothing but the best for your baby. :-)

We use the bugaboo and it's pretty good.... great suspension, holds its balance nicely especially in the beat-up NYC sidewalks! Downside: it does not fold to a really small package so taking it on the plane or the NYC subway may be a challenge. In my humble opinion it won't be easy to get away with just one stroller after a while, but most umbrella models you can use once the baby is 6 months or older (Maclaren Volo). My friends have the Maclaren Techno and if I were to say you can do it all with a single one this one. I like MacLarens, and our second stroller will likely be a Mac Volo. Only drawback with macks is that you don't have a car seat adapter so you can add those b___t-ugly graco car seats :-). Travel systems are big and bulky.... some people swear by them, most swear at them. Good luck... not an easy task. BTW, our daughter hates lying flat so we virtually did not use the ba__sinet on the bugaboo!

Oh, and the mountain buggy just added a car seat adapter accessory so you CAN put one of those b___t-ugly car seats on there. The mountain buggy is good for running and easy to fold.

If you turely think that you need to get a stroller I would get a jogger stroller. They are a lot lighter then the regular ones. I however am not going to buy one for a while. I think my daught was about 6 mo before we even used one.

i have the BOB revolution and i loveeeee ittttt!!!! it's the best. we go walking everyday. you have either buy the graco or peg perego w/it when they're 22 pounds or under. it's lightweight, durable, very easy to store and it handles great. i highly recommend this stroller, plus i can still use it when my baby is up to 60 lbs. i love it!!!!

BBK - Why do you hate the graco car seats? :-) which one did you use and did you like it. If I do get the BOB revoution, the only infant seat it will take is the snugride or the Peg Perego venezia.

Jamie - I was thinking of getting a sling. some people have told me they had trouble with it (their baby didn't like it). I really likethe concept though. Are they hard to tie/ i'm paranoid about him fallling out or him not getting enough air. am i being paranoid?

I have a sling and a stroller. The sling is comfortable but baby and I both get really sweaty when we use it. I had a Snugli for my older daughter, but I had to stop using it when she got to about 15 lbs because it was too uncomfortable. I have an Evenflo stroller and I go walking with it and it's very comfortable. When you look for a stroller, try walking with it and see if your arms are at a comfortable height, and if you can take a step without kicking a wheel. I had an umbrella stroller for my older daughter, and I'm only 5'3" but I still had to hunch over to push it. If your apartment isn't very large, it may be easier to store your stroller in the trunk of your car, to avoid having to carry it up the stairs and to save space.

Angela - mine, I didn't have to tie; it comes with 2 rings, and you thread it - through both rings, then over 1st ring, and under 2nd ring, and it stays put. Then you just adjust whereever you need to. Baby's right on your chest, so you'd feel him slipping, though I have never had an issue with that. My little girl didn't like it at first, but I started using it as a blanket to get her used to the texture (mine is unbleached linen, so a little rough), then had her sit in my lap with it very loose, and gradually tightened it until we were both comfortable with it. It was hot to use in the summer; so she mainly wore just a diaper in it, and I kept a cool, damp wash cloth to wipe her down with. Now that it's getting to be winter, she's right up against me, so I know she's warm enough, since she's sharing my body heat. My girl hates having her face covered (coincidentally, so do I) so I know she doesn't have a problem breathing in it. If you're going to get a sling, I would definately recommend a wrap-style. My cousin still uses hers for her 5 year old son, and as Jbear said, the Snugli type is useless past a certain weight. Mayawrap.com sells them, but they're $50 with shipping. My husband freaked when he saw that, thought I blew $50 on c___p, til he saw me use it the first time. We live in Germany; the stores here are very small and cramped, and the roads are mostly brick/cobblestone - looks pretty, not very convenient with a stroller. I don't have to worry about running the stroller into things, etc. If you just run a google search on "wrap sling" it'll give you a bunch of links...I've seen patterns on how to make them, and they're SUPER easy to make; all you need is a sheet, the rings, and 5 minutes at a sewing machine. Or, you can order them from any number of websites.

Angela, I don't hate graco seats, functionally they are good and better than much more expensive models. We use the graco snugride. I just wish their fabric designs were a bit "cleaner" and they had some better designs fit for a baby girl; In general they fall short in the "looks" dept. :-)
Also we have a baby carrier - 2 actually- and they're great but not a subst_tute for a stroller, and neither is the stroller for the carrier. The baby at times likes one and not the other and they both have limitations. You maybe able to get away without a stroller for the first month or two though.

The maya wrap website has instructions for making your own sling. It took about $4 and 30 minutes of hand sewing to make mine. You can watch the videos for how to use the sling on their website, too.
