I was just curious about something. I have read in books and other sources not to use a blanket to cover your baby at night. I can see as how one shouldn't when an infant is really young. But what about when a baby is very mobile and can move the blanket if he/she doesn't want it? Does anyone use a blanket or just sleepers? I use sleepers just to be safe but I was just wonderning.

I always cover my 7 week old with a blanket...honestly, at night, more often than not, she's got her head in the crook of my arm and we share a blanket. If she gets hot, she'll kick the blanket off, if she gets cold, she cuddles into me. So, it works.

If you are concerned you can use a "wearable" blanket. They sell them at most baby stores.

We were using baby blankets from the hospital but Amaya started pulling the blanket over her face so we are now using a crocheted blanket, and now she will not use or play with any other blanket. She still pullis it over her face but can breathe through the holes! I check on her many times a night (she is sleeping all night but I still worry!) and usually have to pull the blanket off of her face!

We learned a neat trick in the hospital... We put a blanket over the baby - up to his waist or chest. Then we have two rolled receving blankets that we tuck along side of him to keep the blanket in place. It works because we still have him in a basinette... Not sure if it would work in a large crib. The rolls are sort of wedged between his sides and the walls of the basinette.

I use sleepers for my 7 week old,and also have the wearable blankets like BBK just mentioned. Now if you really want to use a blanket they advice to lay the baby with his feet at the footend of the crib, lay a blanket till his chest and tuck it under the matrees on the sides and footend, that way he can not pull it over his face.

I do what Shelly says; tuck in the blanket at the bottom of the mattress. Especially after I checked on my son and the blankie was over his face! I had to laugh, Stephanie, Your idea that she could breath through the holes was also my thinking. I did the same in the summer when all he needed was a light blanket. Yes,I thought, if he pulls this one over his face, he will be able to breath through the holes!! Too cute!!

I bought a blanket at walmart that has a pocket for baby's legs, and then the blanket wraps over and velcros on the side. I also use a wearable blanket or sleepers, depending on what laundry I've done lately.

i have heard not to use balanket sleepers after the baby can roll all the way over or crawl becouse the blanked can get wrapped around their little legs and they cant get out if of so either dress the baby warmly or use a knit or croctced blanket so that they can breath through it (the person that told me that about blanket sleepers is a nurse)
