To Vaccinate Or Not To

I wouldn't even consider not vaccinating my children. I have a younger brother that has an immune disorder so he doesn't get vaccinated becuase it would could cause him to become ill. My mom has always had such trouble with this because schools and other places require a list of your vaccinations. The only thing I won't get vaccinated for is the flu. I've never got a flu.

"Lets here the Truth" TRUTH is alot of babies die from disease and there are new ones being introdused to our counrty because of the war. Because some mothers want to say there is a "risk" involved in vaccs then go as far as to not protect their children from disease. When children are very young there are numerous "risks" in infant care. You have to look at the big picture Death or The "Risks" Id like to know do all the mothers who choose not to vacs their children....How do your babys sleep, eat, ride in the car, what are their toys, who is their care provider, all of wich have greater "risks" involved than the vaccs. I dout all of you are living like hippies those who are thats great those who arnt dont just jump on the band wagon because its pa__sing your house.

Ok Ash, I am trying to understand your post. Are they "new" because of the war or because some mothers don't vaccinate? If they are "new' then there is no vaccine for it. All childhood illnesses end in death? Can you prove that those things have greater risks than vaccinations or is that just sensationalism? Your post just didn't make alot of sense to me, it just sounded like a rant from some who has no clue about vaccinations.

Honestly though, all of you who don't plan to vaccinate, and don't think that others should either - what to you think is going to happen? It may not be overnight, but there will be serious outbreaks! There are risks in every aspect of life - every single thing in the world, could go wrong, and sometimes does, same with vaccines, but give me a break, side affects of shots are just one more thing you have to take a chance on! There is such a bigger threat of them getting sick from NOT getting their shots, than being affected by the shots. This is ridiculous! It really sucks that we're going to turn into a friggen third world country because you're psychotic.

This is how an unvaccinated child can put my newborn at risk. I live in a part of the country where we get a lot of undoc_mented immigrants. I think it's safe to a__sume that some of them have not had the same vaccinations we have, and might even be infected with or a carrier of one of the diseases we vaccinate against. A lot of diseases are contagious before any symptoms show. So, if that healthy, unvaccinated child came in contact with someone who had something he hadn't been vaccinated against, and, before he got visibly sick, came over and pa__sed the germs along to my baby, that's how he could be a danger. And you're going to say that it's not likely that a child would come into contact with an undoc_mented immigrant who might be carrying a disease...a lot of the illegals here end up washing dishes in restaurants, a perfect place to spread germs. I may be paranoid, but I will be a paranoid parent with safe children.

You misread the question. The question was how can a HEALTHY meaning free from disease child infect your child. Infected, meaning not healthy, people showing symptoms or not are a risk to the vaccinated and unvaccinated. Although the unvaccinated have a greater chance of not becoming infected than the vaccinated does.

Should say "unvaccinated have a greater chance of becoming infected" BTW thanks for proving the point.

To those of you who have posted here and gotten really aggressive and mean, I think your responses are uncalled for and unhelpful. Perhaps if you ACTUALLY did some research on what we are talking about on this thread, you could respond more appropriatly. I support parents right to choose and do not condone or belittle parents whose beliefs are different from my own. Maybe we should be less concerned about vaccinations and more concerned about how parents are teaching their children to respect those who differ from themselves.

great post ! - November 15

Angela W, tolerance is certainly lacking these days.

My main point was that we can't tell if someone is healthy by looking at them. I'll admit that I don't know much about the childhood diseases we vaccinate against, but for most of the minor illnesses our kids still get and which I've read a lot about, the illnesses are contagious for a couple of days before symptoms begin, so an apparently healthy child might be spreading germs. I would a__sume it would be similar for the diseases we vaccinate against.

...? - November 15

Then this is a really good opportunity for you to learn more about them. Good luck to you.

... - November 17

I haven't had to learn about them because I know my kids won't get them...I don't know if you have any kids yet, but when your kid gets sick you're reading the charts in the back of the baby care books, looking for symptoms or patterns that fit with what your kid is having. For the most part you can eliminate the diseases we vaccinate against. This means every time your child is sick, you're reading about the ones they can still get, roseola, 5th disease, etc. The reason you try to figure out what your kid has instead of taking them to the doctor is that a lot of times the doctor doesn't need to see the child, they'll just say treat the symptoms, etc. and won't even want the sick/contagious child in their waiting room. So after your child has been through a few minor illnesses, you're pretty familiar with the diseases your child can still get. If I had decided not to vaccinate my children, I'm sure I would have read all about measles, pertussis, etc. trying to rule those out, too. Since my kids are vaccinated, I don't have to.

WOW! - November 17

There are some crazy people on this forum.!!! And by the way, in response to an earlier post, taking your child to a chiropractor isn't providing them with proper healthcare. Thank GOD my babies have a smart mommy and daddy.......

...? - November 17

Yes, you do have to check for those. If you would research vaccinations you would know the you can not eliminate the disease we vaccinate against because vaccinations are not 100% effective. It is possible to be vaccinated and still get what you have been vaccinated for.

...? - November 17

Oh and maybe you could request that your peditrician make separate rooms available for sick children and ones just getting check ups. Some offices are already set up this way. I chose one that was, who needs to be seen more by a doctor a sick kid or a healthy one?

i think some people on this board don't realize that vaccination is not necessarily IMMUNIZATION. you can be completely vaccinated for pertussis, say, and still contract it. measles outbreaks have happened in completely vaccinated areas. and to those who think taking the chance to vaccinate is just a little risk, i'm sure you'd think twice if that little risk was your son or daughter's "fate." a coworker of mine lost her infant granddaughter within the same hour she was vaccinated with the DTaP shot. she arched her back, screamed more terribly than they had ever heard, and fell into a coma. within minutes she was dead, and her pediatrician ADMITTED it was a reaction to her shot. that couple no longer vaccinates their children. and to lucy - your story is VERY heartbreaking, but pertussis didn't necessarily kill your daughter - the incompetent medical community in the hospital you took her to did. i am so sorry for your loss....if i were you i'd have sued them all for medical neglect. lastly, THINK about what we are vaccinating against! they've added hep b to the roster along with chickenpox - since when is chicken pox a deadly disease? sure, the immunocompromised can have problems and they should be vaccinated, but not the population as a whole. hepat_tis b? my infant doesn't do drugs or have s_x. i hear that a cancer vaccine is on the horizon, then a diabetes vaccine, and of course the list keeps growing. it's all $$$ in the hands of the vaccine manufacturers, you can be sure. but what really worries me is NOT the diseases we vaccinate against. what worries me is what is in those vaccines - we've got these things being cultured in animal dna and aborted fetal tissue. who can guarantee something won't go crazy within our systems because of this? i mean, they discovered that the infected monkey tissue used to create the polio vaccine has been found in human cancer cells. this is all experimental, in my opinion - science cannot determine the effects vaccine after vaccine will have on our culture until much later. and what about the mercury used in them? the formaldehyde and aluminum? sure! inject them into MY baby's bloodstream! and lastly, i can prepare myself for the symptoms of disease a or disease b and watch for those symptoms since i know my kids aren't vaccinated. then my ped will treat them as though they might very well have those diseases rather than writing them off as something else...for example, a friend of mine's daughter (FULLY vaccinated), contracted pertussis from her grandfather. she gave the disease to her unvaccinated cousin. both kids had the same pediatrician. both had the same symptoms, the same duration of sickness, the same everything. however, because the vaccinated child was vaccinated, even though tests for bronchitis came back negative, he wrote in her chart that she had bronchitis. the cousin, unvaccinated, was diagnosed with pertussis. interesting to me - at all costs these things (vaccines) are made to appear to the public as though they are foolproof - even if that means tampering with diagnoses.
