To Vaccinate Or Not To

Check out www.cdc.gov/nip/ Under the Vaccine Safety Heading, there is a "Vaccine Safety Issues of Interest" In that category I found a number of interesting articles, including Six Common Misconceptions about Vaccination. I personally don't think there's any question whether or not my child will receive some vaccines, the question is more whether they will receive them in the first month after birth or not. I am definately pro Teta__s vaccines, as teta__s can be readily acquired.

Try this instead: http://www.hrsa.gov/osp/vicp/ Towards the bottom of the page is the link to the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program for the US. Lisa, I was prompted to do a search for Australia too. I was trying to find a "reputable" gov organization, but not being familiar with the "land down under" I may have goofed that one up. I sure hope so! I am SHOCKED at what I found here: http://immunise.health.gov.au/faq.htm#3. It is frightening, if you know any better. It's no wonder why you don't have a VAERS sister site. I did find another site called Australian Vaccination Network @ http://www.avn.org.au/. Maybe you have come across this one in your searches.

Brucen, my husband and i were reading through that site the other day, i have found that most government sites will generally indicate that there is no link between vaccination and the suspected side effects that most parents feel have contributed to their child's illness/disability. It certainly makes me wonder why so many parents feel that their child was affected by a certain vaccine that was administered, and that their child was affected afterwards...could so many parents be wrong?? D..i totally agree with you when it comes to vaccinating against teta__s, whooping cough etc, as there has never been any evidence that i have read so far that has suggested a child has suffered such dire consequences after being immunised. There is certainly a lot of information regarding the concerns of immunisation. I tend to read a lot of forums where parents have posted their own beleifs on this issue, and there are many that are still unsure of what to beleive. My son is probably more on the scale of having Asperger's syndrome, which falls into the spectrum of autism, as it is only very mild, its mostly his social skills that are affected....he has an incredible memory for fine detail and an exceptional ability to concentrate on one thing at a time. A couple of the sites i have visited regularly are: http://forum.asperger.asn.au/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=697 and the austism a__sociation of NSW....http://www.autismnsw.com.au/. A lot of parents contribute to these sites and i find its great being able to relate to others who find themselves in the same predicament.

Brucen...i forgot to say thanks so much for taking the time to find those sites...sometimes, there is a lot of other stuff to read through before you find what you are actually looking for. :o)

What source do you trust? I can find "evidence" and "statistics" that support any view I want!

There are people in other countries who wish they had readily available and affordable vaccines for their children. Anyone should consider themselves lucky to get them. Also, the reason why kids now days are not very likely to get the diseases that they will be vaccinated for is because people are VACCINATED!!!! I would never want to look at my child with whopping cough or measles and know I could have prevented it with a simple injection.

Yes. There are heaps of sites to support evidence that indicates that there is no long term side effects to vaccination, i think its best to be able to read information from both points of view as well. My only point was that some government sites don't support the view of people who feel that there may have been some correlation between their childs illness and vaccination. Some parents are truly adoment that their child was affected by a certain vaccine, particularly the MMR, just as i was. The results of the statistics definitely don't support this view as autism is just as prevalent as it was prior to the introduction of this vaccine. I guess I am just searching for an answer as to why my son 'seemed' affected only after he was vaccinated.

In my country we had no such things like MMR. I presonally know 2 women who lost their babies in the first trimester due to measles - they no longer have chance to get pregnant. Please look at both sides before you decide.

Lisa i totally agree with you, in fact taht was the point i was trying to make. The website I provided indicates taht there were severe side affects but not what those were. It's almost a lie by omission.-- To debating-- I have posted more stuff at the other site. hope it helps, will be looking forward to more of your posts.

THOUGH THERE ARE ALWAYS RISK OF SIDE AFFECTS THEY ARE VERY SMALL. THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON TO DENIE YOUR CHILD A HEALTHY LIFE DUE TO FEAR. ALL 3 OF MINE HAD THEIR SHOTS WITH THE ONLY SIDE AFFECT BEING LOW-GRADE FEVERS. THIS SHOTS ARE THERE TO HELP PREVENT ILLNESS, DIEASES AND DEATH.

I think the biggest thing is that they prevent death. I can't believe that anyone would take this chance.

My stepson lives with us and has Asperger Syndrome. He is an extreme case, terrible social anxiety and OCD. We love him very much but raising him has been very difficult and stressful. When I had my baby I was scared to death of him being autistic. I read all of the studies about the MMR and autism. They claim that the mercury that they use as a preservative is what may have triggered autism. Now, they are making most vaccines without mercury. I had a hard time deciding whether or not to give my son the MMR. My pediatrician felt that there was no link to autism and vaccinations so he got one. Two days after the shot my son's personality changed drastically. He had crying fits that would last 2 hours and he could not be consoled, just like his autistic brother had until the age of 8. I was out of my mind. I felt guilty that I may have made the wrong choice. My son stopped the behavior after about 10 weeks and returned to his cheerful self. It is a hard choice. I think that it is important to vaccinate yet I do think that they could get carried away with vaccinating for too many things. For instance, chicken pox. I have not researched it but all of my family and friends had it as kids and nobody ever died from it. Is it necessary? I realize that people have died from it but enough to make it worth putting a vaccine into our newborns? Thanks for listening to me ramble :0)

I just looked up the chicken pox vaccine. I guess it is beneficial for children with poor immune systems, and adults that have never had it. An adult is more likely to die from chicken pox than a child. If a pregnant woman gets chicken pox it can cause problems for the baby. So I guess if you have little ones and plan on having more it would be a good idea to get them the vaccine.

I do believe that vacs are very important I live in Ontario and right now there is a terrible out break of german measels that came from an area that does not belive in vac due to religion now there is several people infected and some are newly pregnant women who now face the problem of their child being disformed and other serious health problems I don't want to trash anyones religion but when it afects innocent people in the community I believe it should be made a issue. My child is due to have hers in a few weeks and the pros weigh out the cons for sure.German measels hasn't been around for years and years and now due to people not vac themselfs and their children It's making a come back and with great severity.

when you delivery does the hosptial ask you if you want your baby to vaccinated? also if you dont do the MMR for your baby and they never get any of those diseases. When your child wants to have children will that be a problem?
