Hi, is it your 1st pregnancy?? Because if it is a subsequent pregnancy, then the head does not usually engage until labour commences.

Hey there, don't feel too bad, this is my first pregnancy also and my due date was yesterday and my baby's head STILL isn't engaged!!! I was getting very upset about it but now I've just resigned myself to wait. They say the head can engage just before or even during labor so I'm trying not to stress too much! I don't know of anything we can do to help it along, but I would also love some tips.....Good luck girls!

I would sit in the bathtub and ma__sage the sides of your belly in a down word motion to encourage your baby to move on down. I tried it and seemed like it helped. If anything, the bath was relaxing! Try applying a bit of pressure to each side of your belly at the same time and ma__sage down while focusing on your baby moving into your lower pelvis. Don't do it so hard that it hurts though! Also, I've heard that walking and moving around on a birthing ball help because of the gravity. good luck!

my babies head never engaged.....he was head down and hovering over my pelvis but never engaged until contractions started....don't worry you will be fine. It may just happen when labor starts and don't forget due dates mean nothing...a normal birth will occur between 37- 42 weeks and he./she will come when happy and ready!

I ma not dilated at all- so I'm pretty sure they'll be no membrane sweeping for me. I am 40 weeks, 2 days now, and the baby's head is not engaged. The midwife said larger babies tend to engage after contractions start. If I am not dilated at all, will they ever start on their own? I am walking and rolling around on a ball. Also trying to visualize my body opening. Good luck to all of us!

This is my 4th pg and my babies heads didn't engage until after labour had well and truly started each time. Last two labours head din;t go into the birth ca___l until after the waters had broken...you'll have to wait and see what your body does. GOod luck.

Olivene- I was only 1cm dilated when contractions started and baby wasn't engaged at all. My labor (first baby) was 10 and a half hours which is actually quite short for a first labor and the time flew by- you aren't even aware of the time except for when you look at the clock every now and then and think ''wow where did the last 3 hours go?''.......so honestly your babies head will not always engage and it's not a problem. I was stressed about it before my labor and it meant nothing. My baby was also prosterior and he turned right at the start so I had no back labor at all......don't worry girls!
