Anyone S Baby Have A Mild Shoulder Dystocia

I had my first baby last November. Super fast, easy delivery with one push! The doctor said to me at the time that he had a mild shoulder dystocia. He was 7lbs 8oz at birth, a perfect weight. She said if I plan on having another baby, they would keep an eye on the weight because if he was any bigger, it could've been a big problem. Well, I'm already pregnant with my 2nd and a bit paranoid about him not getting too big! The doctor had said there was no major tearing (1 st_tch) and that it only took her a coupld simple maneuvers to get him out. But it's something now in my head and she said a 2nd birth doesn't make it any easier which I thought it did. Anybody have this?? Either mild or more severe or know anything about it?? I appreciate any input :)

If he was born that easy I can't see why the doctors told you that you might have problems if your next was bigger. Unfortunately complications happen, but for them to tell you that has obviously done nothing but make you worry. Honestly going by what you said about how easy it was too push him out, I wouldn't be surprised if it was caused by the doctors 'maneuvering' him out. Sharon the woman who does our accounting had a dd with the same sort of problem except that the poor baby had all the nerves damaged & has lost movement to her left arm. It turned out it was because of the way the DOCTORS delivered her NOT because of what Sharon did. Fortunately her husband questioned how rough they were & they ended up getting a big payout from the hospital. Don't worry too much about size as I am only a small person & my 3yr dd was 7lb 9.5oz & my 11mth ds was 9lb 3oz & I had them both v____ally with no tearing. I had a completely natural water birth with ds & was very surprised at how heavy he was. I am currently 7wks preg with #3 & can honestly say I am no longer concerned with how big the baby will be as our bodies are amazing & are capable of pushing out very big babies if necessary (most of the time). Good luck & try not to worry too much, I'm sure you'll be fine E:)

Thanks E. I appreciate it! I'm pretty small/narrow too. And congrats on #3!! You know, you have a point and I didn't even necessarly think of that. I didn't have an epi either and one doctor said it could've been beccause of the way I was moving around like a lunatic because I had no drugs in me. That makes sense. I read about shoulder dystocia and it happens in like 1% of cases. Crazy low number. So on the one hand, I have this perfect speedy delivery, and on the other, I have this super low statistic and can't help but wonder why/ what it, etc. I told my mother about it and she said to stay off the internet as all this info could make you nuts. But that is very interesting what happened to the woman you know and so sorry to hear that there was actual damage to the baby's arm. That's so horrible. Justin was totally fine thank god. I'm also wondering if it had to do with him having a little broader than average shoulders for a 7.8 pound baby? It was so fast, I can't really see how the doctor moved him all around unnecessarily, though it's possible. I just remember those few seconds of feeling like he should've been out, and wasn't. It was only a few seconds, but it felt wrong. Thanks again for responding...I'll try to put it out of my head for now :)
